try the trend: nude lips.

While a bright, bold lip will always be in style (and looks SO GOOD on people not named Laura and Jennifer)…we’ve always been pretty loyal to a nude lip. SO, we were psyched to see this look on the fall runways. Here are our picks for the best nude lipsticks, plus a few tips for a flawless application.

  1. Laura’s Favorite // Covergirl Colorlicious Lipstick in Creme (#230) // This super creamy lipstick is infused with shea butter, making it extra moisturizing. It glides on really smooth and while it’s not matte, it’s definitely not super shimmer-y.

    The Glitter Life Nude Lipstick
this is not as bronze-y in real life.
  2. Jennifer’s Favorite // Wet N Wild Megalast Lip Color in Bare It All (#902C) // Great color, great price.

    The Glitter Life Nude Lipstick
it’s $1.97. so just try it.
  3. Laura’s Second Favorite //  Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate in #113 // This is truly matte – a great look if you’re doing a sultry cat-eye and dramatic lashes. The only drawback is that the matte “lasting finish”can be kind of drying.

    The Glitter Life Nude Lipstick
    just add a cat-eye.
  4. Christa’s Favorite // LORAC Cream Lipstick in Long Kiss // Our friend and makeup guru Christa recommends this peachy nude. It feels great going on, and provides a hint more color than these others.

    The Glitter Life Nude Lipstick
    peach perfection.

Once you’ve picked your shade, try these tips for an application worthy of a make-up pro:

  1. Exfoliate // Use a lip scrub, or improvise with an old toothbrush and vaseline.
  2. Apply Lip Balm // Choose one that’s waxy, not oily or glossy. Easy does it.
  3. Apply Concealer// Pat it on and around your lips with your finger. This neutralizes the natural pink of your lips.
  4. Line Lips // Use a nude liner one shade darker than your skin tone, and then fill in your whole lip with the pencil to create a neutral base.
  5. Apply lipstick //
  6. Apply gloss // Use a clear gloss with no shimmer or sparkle. TA-DA!

beauty buys.

We’ve been doing some shopping lately – no surprise – and we’ve been feeling especially grabby in the cosmetics department. Here’s the low-down on what we scooped in the last few days:

1. Dior: Diorskin Airflash Spray Foundation. Worth every penny. It’s not heavy- looking, but it does give you a nice finished look that lasts throughout the day. It dries a little darker, so try a shade lighter than your skin tone. And wear a headband when applying so it doesn’t look like you’re due for a dye job!

2. Benefit Cosmetics: Dandelion Luminizer. This product typifies the great quality I’ve come to expect from all Benefit products. Apply it lightly for a subtle, natural-looking pink; build up from there.

3. Tigi Your Highness Shampoo/Conditioner. Sometimes our long, heavy hair needs a LIFT. J’s mom introduced her to the Your Highness (cute!) Volume Collection, which does the trick and smells delicious.

4. L’oreal: Sublime Bronze Airbrush.  We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. We’re obsessed with L’Oreal’s sunless tanning products. J was super eager to try their new deep natural tan shade. It’s perfect (we could have guessed that).

5. Garnier Nutrioniste Ultra Lift Pro Intensive Deep Wrinkle Night Cream. It’s a mouthful…but L loves this stuff. It feels nice and thick going on, but dries to a super smooth finish on your skin.

The Glitter Life

6. Wet N Wild MegaSlicks Lip Gloss in Bronze Berry. You know we’re suckers for a neutral (and cheap) lip-gloss. This Wet N Wild gloss may replace our go-to gloss this summer. It’s a little darker than our beloved NYC Everlasting Blossom…but we’re feeling it!
