outfit roundup 6.5.17

Happy MONDAY – welcome to a five-day week. Yay? I’m teaching Vacation Bible School all this week, so you may not see me much…but Jennifer is ready with lots of cute Insta posts! In the meantime, here’s a look back at our week…

Family Swimsuit Look The Glitter Life
jennifer’s swim top + bottom + sunnies // james’ swim trunks + rash guard

Jennifer and Jay celebrated Baby James’ first birthday last weekend. Jennifer has promised to share party details soon, but in the meantime you can check out her swim look: one-shoulder top // bottom // sunnies // similar sunnies.

Comfy Shorts Look The Glitter Life
striped tee // pull-on shorts // vegan suede baseball hat

Tuesday and Wednesday were a bit of a struggle. Vacations are nice, but there’s so much to do when you return to the real world! Also, RAIN. My Wednesday look says it all: comfy basics (my fave striped tee and these cute pull-on Madewell shorts) + coffee + trusty ball cap. My hat is from Dish comes in tons of colors – this one from Kohl’s is similar.

Striped Maxi The Glitter Life
the cutest maxi

Target always has a great selection of summer maxis, and this year is no different. Our picks: this striped one and this floral one. Both are under $30!

Brunch Table Setting The Glitter Life
stemless champs flutes // water carafe // cake stand // serving bowl // placemat // gold flatware // 16-piece place setting

Brunch is the most important meal of the day, so when Jennifer’s al fresco Sunday brunch was rained out yesterday, she just moved it inside. Honestly, I would have eaten outside in the rain if it meant using this amazing table setting! Palm print and gold flatware and beaded plates, oh my.

Swimsuit Cover Look The Glitter Life
strapless swim top // swim bottom // tassel earrings // sunnies

So, something exciting happened last week – my boys and I were on the cover of Moments Magazine! We had a blast shooting the cover, even though it was a challenge to get both boys to look in the same direction at the same time – witness my death-grip on Ed. I was flattered to be featured, and Joe and I are grateful for the opportunity to share our family’s story. You can read the article via ISSU here.

I’m wearing my favorite bandeau swim top from Target (shop both pieces here), tassel earrings (see more of our fave tassel earrings here) and Toms Memphis sunglasses. The boys’ matching red Prodoh shorts are from local Statesboro store Bellies, Babies and Ballerinas.

Hope everyone has an amazing week – catch us on Insta! xo

J: Hi. Busy life happening over here. We’ve missed you. Let’s catch up, shall we?

As you know, Jay and I are expecting a little boy in May and we are officially in FULL nursery planning/baby shopping mode. We will do a nursery reveal once we have the furniture installed, but here are a few items I’ve scooped so far:

Curtains: Had. To. Have. These. They’re pretty perfect for basically any room in your home.

Pottery Barn Pom Drapes

Accent Table: A table very similar to this was one of the first purchases I made for the nursery to go next to the glider. Super cute. Great price. Target wins AGAIN.

Target Table

Animal Heads: I obsessed over finding wall decor for the nursery that wasn’t cheesy. Really difficult task. BEHOLD the most precious white animal heads we came across at Z Gallerie and purchased on the spot.

And now for a few pregnancy must haves…

  1. My girlfriend, Annie turned me on to Mama Mio products and they are nothing short of amazing.
  2. This top. In every color. Perfect for the layering I’ve been doing in the chilly weather. Perfect fit. Super soft.
  3. Still sporting heels on the daily, but these slippers are sweet relief when I get home. And in gold. Naturally.

Promise we won’t stay gone long this time! We have Super Bowl Sunday and Valentine’s Day on the horizon after all!

design project: baby ed’s nursery

L:

It’s hard to believe (for me, anyway), but Baby Ed is due in less than six weeks! I thought I would share the progress I’ve made on his nursery. It’s not 100% finished (I don’t think I’ve ever been totally “finished” with any project), but it’s definitely getting there. Baby Joe and I have had a lot of fun shopping and organizing – it’s definitely helped him get excited about the new addition to our family. If he only knew how his world is about to change…

Nursery Collage

Animal Illustrations // Etsy (check out these two inexpensive framing options from Walmart and Target)

Grey Babyletto “Hudson” Crib // Target

Stuffed Owl // Pier 1 (no longer available, similar here)

“Flynn” Navy Nailhead Chair // Lamps Plus (I actually found mine several years ago at TJ Maxx – it’s been living in our den)

Nate Berkus Gold Side Table // Target (this style is no longer available, but I love this one for a similar look)

Knit Fox Rattle // Land of Nod

“Aloe” Paint // Sherwin Williams (for the changing table and chest of drawers)

Changing Table // Pottery Barn (mine is several years old and was used in Joe’s nursery)

Moose Antlers (spray painted white) // One Kings Lane (no longer available, but similar here)

Fabric // Arizona Canyon (changing table pad), Mint Triangles (crib sheets), Navy Horizon (for this crib quilt that I haven’t pulled the trigger on yet! Hint, hint, Mom…)

Distressed Wood Mirror // Walmart (love this option from Target)

“Vinnie” Cradle Rocker // Overstock

I hope Baby Ed likes his nursery as much as I do!

pottery barn weddings photo shoot

A few weeks ago we gave you a sneak peek of a photo shoot our friends at Colonial House of Flowers and Alva + Austrie did for Pottery Barn Weddings. The post is now live! Check out the gorgeousness here. Here’s our favorite pic of the shoot.

sneak peek: pb weddings photo shoot.

It was just a normal Tuesday…and then our friend Christy, the super talented owner of Colonial House of Flowers, asked Dish to join in on her collaboration with Pottery Barn Weddings. Also in on the fun were our friends (and former Shop Social Dish girls!) Kristin and Anna of Alva & Austrie. What could be more fun? We had to say yes!

We rounded up our favorite model Maggie and headed over to a beautiful home in Statesboro for the shoot. We were amazed at what the girls at Colonial House and A+A had achieved – a welcoming, spring-y bridal shower in the middle of January (complete with hand-lettered banners, flower crowns, and more fresh flowers than we’ve ever seen this time of year). There was a REAL photographer, of course (the adorable and amazing Izzy Hudgins) and we can’t wait to show you those pictures. But until the official post is up, check our behind-the-scenes pics.

how to style: a bar cart.

Whether you’re a budding mixologist or just need somewhere to keep your favorite champagne, every girl needs a bar area in her home. We love the idea of a bar cart rather than a stationery bar – it’s so much easier to take the party outside when weather allows.

The Glitter Life Bar Cart

We also like this cart and this cart.

The Glitter Life Bar Cart
streamlined elegance. {williams-sonoma “beckett” bar cart}
The Glitter Life Bar Cart
perfect on a patio, and the price is NICE. {Pottery Barn “Jacquelyne” Bar Cart.}

Stock your cart with what you like, but keep guests in mind. You don’t have to store EVERYTHING in the cart – stash extra (or ugly, or nearly empty) bottles in the pantry. Add accessories like cocktail books, pretty napkins, framed art, etc. Style your cart just like you would style your bookshelves.

color-coordinate: group together bottles and accessories of the same color.
The Glitter Life Bar Cart
use trays or dishes of various sizes to organize your cart into zones: garnishes, tools, glassware, etc.
The Glitter Life Bar Cart
add whimsy with random objects and/or framed art.

Three more tips:

  • Consider the addition of a framed cocktail recipe. It’s nice to give guests a guide!
  • Glassware is key. Check sites like C. Wonder and Kate Spade for cute options. We also love vintage glasses – yard sales and flea markets can be gold mines.
  • Fresh flowers. Always.

PS – Don’t forget to shop our Stella & Dot trunk show! Proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross’ disaster relief efforts in the midwest.
