your Masters party: ham sliders + azalea cocktails.

These Hawaiian Ham and Swiss Sliders are THE BEST SANDWICHES YOU WILL EVER EAT, swear. L made these for her fifth annual egg hunt on Saturday, and all 96 were snapped up by party-goers (kids included!). Whip some up for a Masters viewing party this weekend and add a round of Azalea Cocktails. You’re good to go.

The Glitter Life Ham and Cheese Slider
you cannot – repeat, cannot – eat just one of these.

Hawaiian Ham & Swiss Sliders (makes 24 sandwiches, plan on 2-3 per person)

What You Need:

  • 24 slices deli honey ham (L used Sara Lee Maple Ham)
  • 6 slices swiss cheese, cut into quarters
  •  1/3 cup mayonnaise (L used Kraft mayo)
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons dijon mustard (L used French’s Dijon)
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 2 packages (12 count) King’s Hawaiian Original or Honey Wheat Hawaiian Sweet Dinner Rolls

What You Do:

  • Split rolls in half and spread mayo onto 1 side of the rolls. Place a slice or two of ham and a (quarter) slice of swiss cheese in roll. Replace the top of the rolls and bunch them closely together into a baking dish.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together poppy seeds, dijon mustard, melted butter, onion powder and worcestershire sauce.
  • Pour sauce over the rolls, just covering the tops. Cover with foil and let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Bake covered at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted. Uncover and cook for additional 2 minutes until tops are slightly browned and crisp. Serve warm.

These sandwiches are also great at room temperature – don’t stress about serving them right out of the oven. You can assemble the sandwiches the night before baking – just cover TIGHTLY with plastic wrap to prevent them drying out. When you’re ready, pour on the sauce and pop them in the oven!

poolside picnic (featuring cucumber honeydew salad).

One of our favorite things to do this time of year is pack a picnic that’s easy to eat poolside. We make a few different sandwich fillings (including our favorite egg salad recipe) and whipped up a few sides. Here’s what L threw together for the Fourth of July:

Honeydew Cucumber Salad adapted from Two Peas and Their Pod

What You Need:

  • juice of half a lemon
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 medium honeydew melon, seeded and cut in bite-size cubes (about 5 cups)
  • 1 cucumber, chopped
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1 cup crumbled reduced-fat feta cheese

What You Do:

  • Whisk lemon juice, olive oil, honey, salt, and pepper in a small bowl until combined.
  • Combine honeydew melon, cucumber and onion in a large bowl. Toss to combine. Drizzle dressing over the salad and stir. Top with feta and serve.
  • Leftovers will definitely keep a few days in the fridge, but you will want to strain the remaining salad before serving.

friday five: weekend to-do list.

1. Have an Indoor Picnic.  The weather in Georgia is going to be seriously terrible this weekend.  Rather than going out, whip up a simple supper of a sliced baguette, fancy cheeses, charcuterie and cornichons (check out this link for inspiration – or just grab takeout), spread a blanket on the living room floor and listen to the rain.

2. DIY Braided Cord Cover. Exposed cords really bother us. We work hard to conceal them (we’ve been known to tape them to the bottoms of tables, weave them through tiny nails hammered into the wall, etc), but sometimes we have no choice but to let them show. Fabric Paper Glue to the rescue! In the time it takes you to watch a cheesy TV movie, you can create this adorable braided cover.

And if cords REALLY make you nuts, try these washi tape cord covers perfect for phone chargers.

3. Style Your Shelves. This is a perfect rainy day project! Think like a stylist: scour your house for interesting objects (random vases, figurines, tiny photos); group similarly-colored books together; and give the eye somewhere to rest every now and then. This is a great article with more how-to advice.

4. Visit a Flower Market. IT’S PEONY SEASON! We both love peonies; their explosive beauty is perfection in arrangements short and tall, simple and complex. If weather permits, visit your local flower market, scoop some peonies (or whatever flowers you love), and create an arrangement yourself. We love these ideas from Apartment Therapy.

5. Bake Something. Sundays are for baking at our houses. Try these peanut-butter pretzel brownies from on the ADORABLE blog A Beautiful Mess. Chevron pretzel pattern optional.

tailgating.

Happy Monday, Glitter girls!

Can you believe it’s already SEPTEMBER? It’s actually chilly (ish) this morning in Georgia. *Fingers crossed* that this amazing weather continues.

September is exciting for several reasons.  One of the best is college football tailgating (see also: New York Fashion Week).  J and I are pretty much professional tailgaters.  Here are our tips for a glitter-fabulous event.

The Set-Up:

Make it pretty.

1. Picnic Basket – If you’re tailgating on the grass (as opposed to a parking lot), a real picnic basket lends a little vintage flair to your set-up. Plus, it holds all your stuff and makes clean up easier.

perfect for a smaller family gathering.

2. Napkins – Of course, you can always buy napkins in your team’s colors. from your local party supply store. Or you can go with something a little cuter/dressier, like these napkins designed for fans of L’s alma mater, the University of Georgia.

UGA Napkins
found these on etsy, of course. go dawgs!
Pewter Napkins & Holder
a napkin weight is key on a windy day.

3. Cocktails: Sure, you’ll want to put in plenty of time playing hostess at your tailgate…but (if you’re anything like us) you’ll also want to take a few laps and visit old friends you don’t get to see everyday.  Grab one of these and go!

Stacked Wines
how cute are these stacked wines!?
Sofia Pink Champagne Minis
drinking champagne with a straw is kinda our fantasy.

4. Tablecloth – Don’t be an amateur. Use a real tablecloth.  Thrown over a lightweight table, it instantly elevates your space.

Gingham Tablecloths
use these tablecloths for your next bbq, too.
Ticking Stripe Tablecloth
this Pottery Barn ticking stripe goes with everything.

5. Entertainment – You gotta have tunes at your tailgate (unless you’re one of those people who insists on listening to the “pre-game show” or whatever it’s called).  You already know how much we love our Sound Freaq. Make a playlist and get your friends to do the same–this wireless blue-tooth speaker will play music for hours, straight from your iPhone. Also, who doesn’t love to play a little corn-hole (or bean bag toss) before a big game?

this will keep the boys occupied while we gossip.

The Invite:

Everything is so casual these days: mass texts, Facebook invites, etc.  Why not do something extra special for the big game? Etsy (where else?) has some super cute printable invites.  We love these and these.

The Menu:

Every girl has her favorites.  Our non-negotiables:

1. Bloody Marys – Vodka. Zing Zang Mix. Ice. Lemons, limes, celery, pickles. Garnish to your heart’s content. (Or, check out three more exotic Bloody Mary recipes here.)

2. Pimiento Cheese Sandwiches – A Southern classic and a tailgate staple. Buy your pimiento cheese at your local deli or make it yourself–it’s super easy! Try our sophisticated four-cheese recipe, or go old-school with this one.

the perfect sandwich.

3. Salted Chocolate Chip CookiesThis easy recipe satisfies sweet and salty tooths (teeth?) alike.
