friday five: links we love.

Whew, we made it through another week! J’s been jetting around the South for work and L’s been getting used to having an infant in the house again…so we’re feeling especially grateful for the next 48-ish hours. Here’s hoping your weekend will be a mix of fancy cheese, champagne and DIY design!

1 // Modern cheese plate // Tailgating spreads don’t have to be fancy. Sometimes all you need is a little cheese and some cornichons. Cupcakes and cashmere shows us how to create a modern cheese plate here.

2 // Champagne // Apparently there are 22 reasons to have champagne on hand at your house. That’s 21 more than we needed.

3 // Sunburst Light Fixture // We’ve both been on renovation rampages at our houses. This (fairly) easy DIY sunburst light fixture from the girls at A Beautiful Mess just might fit into our weekend reno plans.

4 // Stylish Survival Guide // No, we’re not coming to you live from #NYFW (this year)…but this “How To Survive Fashion Month” article by Whitney Port does have real life application for us. And for anyone who happens to be traveling out of town for “work.”

5 // Perfect Sunday Afternoon Project // After a weekend of football (and possibly struggling to re-wire that Sunburst Light Fixture), indulge your creative side and re-style your coffee table. Use this handy tutorial from Domino as a guide. As if we needed another excuse to purchase pink peonies! Happy Friday, yall.

friday two: holiday wreaths.

You guys. This week has been one big stressful blur. Work and family commitments have limited us to zero time to get anything ready for the holidays. Our Saturday mission is to AT LEAST get a wreath up. We love these two inexpensive DIY ideas that appeared on Cupcakes and Cashmere recently.

friday five: things to try.

Weekends are the perfect time to break out of your rut and try something new. Read on for our suggestions for a fabulous summer weekend, starting now!

1. Make a Golden Girl Cocktail. We love, love love trying new cocktails…especially when they’re easy to make. And ESPECIALLY when they’re named after one of the most fantastic sitcoms of all time. Click here for the recipe.

2. Have Dinner Somewhere New. J and Jay dined at at Atlanta hotspot The Optimist for the first time last week and absolutely loved it. Their menu changes daily, and if you’re lucky enough to dine there when bank scallops are an option,  DO IT. You’ll be glad you did.

3. Try a Waterfall Braid. We’ve been dying to try a waterfall braid, but um…it doesn’t look easy.

must…learn…how to do…

We’re going to attempt it though, using this helpful video tutorial from Hair and Makeup By Steph.

4. Bring on the Bling. We love the idea of a simple white dress paired with amazing statement earrings for the weekend. These Kate Spade beauties fit the bill.

5. Style Your Coffee Table. The weekend is the perfect time to tackle one area of your home and re-style it. If you’re like us, you’re more creative on the weekends, and you have time to run out and scoop some new accessories if you need them. Plus, tackling one area at a time keeps us from getting overwhelmed. So dust off your table and clear away the junk (and the remotes). Add some pretty books (check out Lauren Conrad’s list of favorite coffee table books here), a scented candle, and a few of your favorite random objects. We also love these inspiring links: the every girl, cupcakes and cashmere, and house beautiful. Re-styling this oft-neglected area can really change the feel of your home.

friday five: things to try.

Celebrate the first week of spring by trying five new things this weekend.

1. A chic pair of sunglasses. Sunny days are ahead. Time to update your eye-wear! Step out of your comfort zone with a fun cat-eye style.

2. Springy statement earrings. It’s not quite warm enough for breezy dresses. Spring-ify your go-to winter outfit (blazer, tee and skinnies) with a pretty pop of color for your weekend brunch.

3. Smoothie pops. We love trying new recipes on the weekends. These healthy, delicious Orange-Banana Smoothie Pops are on our agenda.

4. Pastel polish. Get in the spring spirit with a pastel mani. We’re LOVING the Deborah Lippmann Spring 2013 collection. Try one of these shades for your next at home gel mani.

Happy Thursday, glitter girls!

We don’t think of ourselves as particularly sporty, but we’re really feeling utility vests right now. This versatile piece can skew casual, dressy, dressy-casual…you name it. Here are our three favorite ways to rock a utility vest.

1. Weekday Casual. Obviously, a utility vest looks great with a cute, simple ensemble.

Lauren at Stylized Existence paired her vest with an orange blouse, fur collar and boyfriend skinnies.

2. Sophisticated Casual. Add feminine accessories to create a more uptown look.

3. Cocktail Casual. You can also wear a utility vest in a more unexpected way. Here’s one of our favorite bloggers, Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere, pairing a vest with dressier pieces:

L is going to pair this olive vest from Shop Social Dish with bright pink lace shorts, a chambray button-down, and ankle boots. How would you wear it?
