friday five: fresh.

FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY!

Despite the wretched weather in Georgia, or maybe because of it, we can’t stop thinking about spring. This week’s Friday Five is dedicated to all things fresh.

1. Fresh Produce. Spring means fresh produce! Most farmer’s markets will really kick into gear in a few weeks. Drop by your local farmer’s market and scoop whatever looks best to you. Ask questions if you don’t know how to prepare a certain veggie – most vendors are happy to share a recipe or two. Learn how to master your farmer’s market and how to keep your produce fresh with a few tips from Lauren Conrad.

L tried this tip with fresh blackberries on wednesday. so far, so good. image: lauren conrad.

2. Ice Cream Colors. What better way to welcome spring than with cupcakes made with your new pastel KitchenAid mixer? We love every single thing on this collage by Design*Sponge.

grrrrrrr we want that ikat console SO BAD.

3. EOS Mint Lip Balm. It’s minty. It’s tiny. It’s 95% organic (surely the other 5% won’t hurt us). We’re tossing our bright lipstick and using this natural lip balm this spring.

buy a few: car, desk, handbag etc. ahhhh.

4. Mint Blazers. It’s no secret that we love a classic blazer. This time of year we start thinking about swapping our favorite navy jacket for a pastel version. Mint flatters every hair color and complexion, and it looks equally great with dark denim and white denim.

5. White Denim. Speaking of white denim, now is the time to buy the perfect white jean. The Kaylie Slim & Sexy Bootcut fit by 7 For All Mankind will carry you through spring and summer. We love the curvy fit and the not-too-big boot.

We’re working hard and playing hard this weekend. We’ll check back in on Monday!

Wait, you didn’t think we’d leave you for the weekend without a cocktail recipe, did you? That wouldn’t be very Glitter of us. In keeping with today’s theme, swap your usual wine for one of these mint-cucumber-vodka cocktails. Fresh!

how to: pack for a quick trip.

Happy Tuesday, glitter girls!

We’re headed back to Las Vegas this afternoon for a quick trip to the MAGIC tradeshow. We’ll land tonight, work all day Wednesday, and head home to Atlanta on the red-eye late Wednesday night. We’re packing light this time. Our plan:

Tuesday: Meetings + Flight

We both have meetings Tuesday morning (including a vanity necessary stop at DryBar) before our flight leaves, so we can’t just schlub it. Skinny jeans and vests will do us right and take us all the way to LV.

Skinny Jean + Lace Tee + Fur Vest

Tuesday Night: Drinks

Once we get to Vegas, I’ll keep the fur vest but swap the skinnies for leather shorts, the lace tee for a flowy top, and the boots for heels. Once key to packing light is to wear your bulkiest items on the plane. For me, that’s the fur vest and boots.

Fur Vest + Leather Shorts + Heels
L’s leather shorts are black, but you get the idea…image: wendy’s look book.

Wednesday: Tradeshow + Industry Happy Hour + Dinner + Flight

We always fight the urge to dress like twins when we’re together–our brains work the same way, so it’s tough! We’ll both be wearing versions of this cute, layered outfit for the tradeshow, happy hour at BCBG, one of our fave vendors, dinner and flight home late Wednesday night.

The Packing List:

skinnys // lace tee // fur vest // scarf // pashmina (for the plane) // black leather shorts // peachy flowy top // nude heels // black leggings // oversize tunic // gray suede boots // leather jacket // striped tee and extra sweater (you never know!) // curling iron //dry shampoo // notebooks and office supplies // phone charger

The Luggage:

We both have a version of the same Coach duffle, which is no longer available. This is probably the swan song for L’s duffle, though–ten years of weekly trips have taken their toll. Any suggestions for a replacement purchase?

The Manicure:

We’re both wearing Essie Sand Tropez, a perfectly neutral shade that won’t show chips during our whirlwind trip.

Essie Sand Tropez
essie sand tropez is our go-to shade for travel.

We’ll post pics of our trip (and our outfits!) on Friday. Until then, be sure to follow our twitter feed @glitter_blog_xo for behind-the-scenes pics of MAGIC.

L says:

Over the years, my home decorating style has evolved from a strictly neutral palette (cream, black and khaki – classic to be sure, but also pretty boring) to one with more and more colors (a little green here, some turquoise there). Over the last year, I’ve added a few red and pink accents to my home. Here, my two faves.

Red Jenny Lind Bed
inspired by this Land of Nod catalog photo, i painted joe jr’s Jenny Lind bed from Target red. bed no longer available.
Robert Abbey Gourd Lamp
this robert abbey gourd lamp sits in my living room next to a stack of books.

And now, a few things on my To Buy list. Joe, stop reading.

For Like Ever
i’ve wanted this poster for…like…ever. buying it!
Red Metal Chairs
wouldn’t these be perfect on your patio for this summer? they’re on SALE.
West Elm SMEG Refrigerator

Fucshia Chevon Rug
this land of nod fuchsia chevron rug would be amazing in a neutral kitchen OR funky office.

get organized: nail polish.

Happy Tuesday, glitter girls!

“Get organized” is no doubt on your list of New Year’s resolutions. Ours, too. We decided to start small, tackling our nail polish collections.

We 1) have a LOT of nail polish, and 2) use it every day. The bottles are so pretty that we hate to hide them, and we definitely need easy access since painting our nails is a nightly occurrence. This is what we WISH our collections looked like:

Essie Nail Polish Shelf
heaven.

Here are some other, easy ideas to organize your own.

Nail Polish Lazy Susan
spin the wheel! use a lazy susan to keep polish upright.
Nail Polish Caddy
place neatly in acrylic drawers with your tools.
Nail Polish Vase
store all your bottles in a pretty vase.

What we decided on:

Nail Polish Tray
J’s keeping her polish collection on a pretty tray in her living room.
Nail Polish Vase
L went the vase route, using a Kate Spade rose bowl to top a stack of design books.

How do you organize your polish? Tweet us! @glitter_blog_xo
