So it’s taken me a while to come around to the slip-on sneaker trend. (Is it even a trend at this point? It feels like they’re here to stay.) At first I felt like I couldn’t pull off something so sporty. Dressier options like pointy-toe flats, ballet flats, etc were more “me.” But I’ve slowly come around. I started with the Minnetonka “Pacific” suede sneaker, with which I ended up falling in love. CUTE. COMFY. EASY. And they’re on sale right now for $41, which is a total steal.
Then I was introdued to the Minnetonka “Gabi” sneaker in black suede: a little edgier, and – if you can believe it (I couldn’t) – even more comfortable. Seriously, it feels like I am walking on clouds when I wear them.
Fit note: These are sized like running shoes. I recommend ordering your normal SNEAKER size. I wear a 6.5 in heels and most flats, but a 7 (which is my Nike/New Balance size) fit me best in both Minnetonka sneakers.
HOW is January half-over already? Oh wait, I know…holidays, snow days and three-day weekends have totally distorted my calendar. Jennifer and I have been struggling to get back in the swing of things – nothing new. At what point will we just recognize that life at this stage (married, young kids, demanding jobs, busy schedules) is NEVER going to feel calm and collected? Hmmm…how about now? K, done. 🙂 These days, taking an outfit pic in the morning feels like a mini-victory. Or maybe a major victory, depending on the day. Here are a few looks worth repeating…click each photo for shoppable links, or (if you’re viewing this on our website) click each product pic for how-to-buy info.
On Friday our SEPTIC TANK crashed/exploded/quit. Which, if you know anything about plumbing – I don’t, and I don’t want to learn – is especially bad news if you’ve had weeks of rain and all area wastewater facilities are full. The boys and I couldn’t deal without toilet flushing and showers, so we (very happily) went to my in-laws’ for the weekend.
As promised, here are a few of my favorite looks for the holiday season. You don’t need much: a fun little skirt and a few special accessories will get you through.
I wore this adorable plaid skirt for a family holiday event. It’s sold out for now (but keep looking – this brand has a habit of restocking popular items!), so I rounded up some other equally cute little plaid numbers for you guys.
Here I am, wearing my trusty “Sidewalk Skirt” again. Also, I’m a big believer in tights. They really do make a huge difference as far as warmth! But all tights are not created equal. These Spanx Luxe Leg Tights are the only tights I will ever wear – they are 100% opaque, never lose their shape and do a LOT for you as far as holding everything in. They’re a big confidence booster! I’m wearing them in the first pic as well.
Merry, merry everything! The holidays are in full swing, and since both of us have little ones our posting may become a little spacy as we (try to) focus on our boys during this special time of year. Here’s a look at some of my favorite outfits from the last couple of weeks. As I mentioned in this post, I tend to do “capsule dressing” AKA buying a few new pieces every season that work with 1) what I already have and 2) also work with each other. It makes getting dressed in the morning so much easier! Click each photo to shop the look, or (if you’re looking at this on our website), click each piece in the product widget below the photo.
I’ve put this wool “Sidewalk Skirt” in heavy rotation this fall/winter (and it’s on MAJOR SALE right now – less than $20! – so scoop several colors!). The gathered/ruched/ruffled/ waistband is super-comfy, and the high-waisted fit is so flattering. It’s perfect with tights as well. I’m wearing it here with my all-time favorite sweater (I have it in several colors – can’t stop, won’t stop) and leopard-print heels.
And speaking of leopard…
This faux-fur jacket makes me SO happy. I love the length and how cozy it feels – it’s honestly warmer than some of my “serious weather” coats. Leopard-print looks great with literally EVERYTHING (the only exception: something else leopard-print). I wear mine with everything from jeans and a button-down to an LBD. My exact coat sold out super fast, but I rounded up a ton of other options for you guys in a range of price points.
This corduroy skort from Sole Statesboro is a super-versatile piece – it’s lightweight, so it looks great with bare legs and loafers…but it also works great with tights (these Spanx tights are the ONLY tights I will ever wear!) and booties. I’m wearing the skort here with the same wool sweater from above and and a ruffle coat from several years ago. If you love dressy coats like there, click here for my round-up of the best ruffle coats this year!
Here’s my go-to sweater in bright orange. Orange is one of my favorite colors – it works so perfectly with olive, navy, etc. I’m wearing it here with Spanx denim leggings (which you should REALLY check out if you haven’t yet) and a statement necklace. I’m definitely in favor of wearing statement necklaces for everyday – they elevate basics and make them feel special.
Stay tuned for my favorite holiday dressing! Hope the rest of your week is wonderful – xo
It has rained literally EVERY DAY this summer – and every single day – it’s forced me to up my rainy-day outfit game. I love this embroidered baseball hat from Dish (I’m also feeling this satin one from Forever 21, which is super similar!), and this lightweight camo jacket has become my go-to layer. It’s under $40 and is stocked in all sizes! I’ve been wearing these TOMS Memphis sunnies for over two years. They fit my face perfectly (no bending or molding necessary), and they never slide off my ears. These come in a bunch of cool color combos; the tortoise ones like mine are on major sale right now!
The Joes and I spent a weekend in Atlanta, doing some tourist-y things, hanging out with Jennifer, Jay and James and attending the christening of our sweet friend Corinna’s daughter Quinn. Little Joe broke hearts in his pink shorts and blazer (his is from Janie & Jack, and I couldn’t find it online…this one from J Crew is similar). Click the photo for the other details, including a few options for his Vineyard Vines shirt.
Have you guys recovered from the long weekend? Ours was glorious…but Tuesday hit us like a ton of Monday-sized bricks. After struggling yesterday, we’re back in the game today. We put a few items to the test last week – read on for the deets.
Jennifer and Jay traveled to Vegas last week, and as you probably know that East Coast-to-almost-West Coast flight is BRUTAL. A cocktail and this H&M comfy striped button-down (paired with Blank NYC white denim – of course) made the flight a little more bearable. The top comes in a few more colors/prints!
The Joes and I didn’t go ANYWHERE for Memorial Day weekend, and it was magical. Sometimes relaxing at home is the best way to recharge. We did have a few friends over for a pool party Saturday night, and this striped bikini top and bottom from Target got a lot of compliments. As I’m writing this post, all sizes are still available! I love how the top feels so secure, and it’s true to size. The bottoms are not as cheeky as most styles right now – I probably could have sized down, but with two kids…better safe than sorry. Also, have you guys tried this SPF 30 Brush On Block yet? It’s a truly genius product – you just twist the brush and a translucent SPF powder materializes on the brush. No greasy sunscreen lotion getting in your eyes, no kids coughing exaggeratedly “ughhhhh it’s in my mouth!!!!” as you spray them. Wait, are mine are the only ones that do that? Seriously, try it.
This flamingo pool float is EVERYTHING. I *hate* floats that don’t keep you above water – if I wanted to get wet, I would SWIM. -_- This giant pink beauty keeps me suspended above the water and provides plenty of room to relax. I do recommend using an air compressor or similar-ish thingy (idk what they’re called, I’m not a scientist) to inflate it. Don’t ask me how I know.
On Memorial Day, Jennifer sipped a few margs in this adorable striped off-shoulder top. It comes in petite AND tall and – unbelievably! – it’s under $20. You’ll have plenty of money left over for queso.
We’ve got tons of cute stuff planned for the next few weeks. Follow along on Instagram and tag us in your own pics!
It’s MONDAY, and there’s so much to smile about! We had a restful Mother’s Day weekend, the I-85 bridge has been re-opened and Jennier’s precious baby James turns ONE. We’ll have deets on his birthday party soon…but in the meantime, let’s prolong going back to the real world by doing a little summer shopping. Click each photo to shop some of our favorite things!
Jennifer posted these H&M scallop denim shorts and Steve Madden sandals, and y’all went nuts. In fact, both are now sold out (congrats to those of you who moved fast!), but check out these super-similar fringe sandals from Sole Society. They’re available in three colors and are under $80!
In my quest to spend some quality time with both of my boys, I’ve been taking them (separately, because I’m not a crazy person) to brunch on Saturdays. Mama time for them and a mimosa for me – everybody wins! My no-fail brunch look includes this adorable ruffle top (also comes in black!), my trusty Spanx denim leggings (which always fit no matter how many crepes I eat!) and my favorite Madewell denim jacket, because the temps have been varying wildly down here…and what’s the point of brunch if you can’t sit outside? We also like to do a little walking around downtown afterwards, so I always wear wedges. These Toms watercolor wedges are my current favorite.
You guys know we heart Target – it’s great style at great prices, areweright? Both of us own this Target sequined-collar plaid button-down from two years ago, and we’re bringing it back this season. And since we have Target on the brain, we linked our top picks from Target for fall over on Shop Style. Click this link to shop, or like our photo on Instagram (@glitter_blog_xo) today and you’ll get a shoppable email sent to your inbox. And check out our other posts featuring Target items here and here and here.
