friday five: weekend warrior.

Yay for the weekend! L and the Joes are headed to Greenville, South Carolina, this weekend for a mini family vacay. Today’s Friday Five is dedicated to weekend warriors everywhere.

1. Packing List. No matter where you’re going, it pays to plan your outfits ahead of time. We’re big believers in packing light – it’s no fun to lug around a bag of clothes that you end up not even wearing. For a weekend away, you really just need a few things: a great pair of skinnies, a couple of tops (one dressy, one casual), flats (unless you have a big nighttime event, leave your heels at home) and medium size bag in a bright color. Here’s L’s packing list for Greenville:

The Glitter Life How To Pack
bright bag (tory burch) // cardigan // skinnies (7 for all mankind) // rain boots (hunter) // sunglasses (ray ban) // tank (eight sixty, available here) // striped tee / /flats (available here)

2. Homemade Snacks.  It’s so much healthier (and cheaper) to make your own snacks rather than relying on the offerings at some nasty gas station. You can whip up your very own trail mix in a matter of minutes! Make a big batch and package it in small portions for the trip. Use this recipe from Taste of Home for inspiration.

3. Travel Mask: Long road trips can leave your skin looking super tired. Wake it back up with the Travelmate Mask by When. This high-quality Essence Gel Mask uses a bio-cellulose sheet created by fermenting coconut juice, each containing a high volume of fluid that is very effective in transferring the liquid nutrients to skin. We also recommend When’s 10:00PM mask for anti-aging…

4. Weekender Bag: Kate Spade Saturday is the latest and greatest from the Kate Spade New York family.  KSS believes that “getting dressed should be a lot of fun” and we couldn’t agree more. We were really intrigued by Saturday’s “Design a Weekender” program where you build your own travel bag. SO FUN! You really can’t go wrong there.

BONUS: it’s loaded with pockets and compartments to organize all of your traveling goods.

5. A Good Book: Atlanta girl, Emily Giffin (you may recognize her name from other amazing books such as Something Borrowed and Something Blue…) has done it again with her latest novel Where We Belong. If you can’t read in the car, it’s also available on audio! We won’t spoil it by giving details, but trust it’s a must read.

weekend wrap up: charleston.

Happy Wednesday, glitter girls!

A few months ago, my Atlanta girlfriends and I decided we were long overdue for a road-trip.  We decided on Charleston: there’s brunch, shopping and scenery with zero requisite sunless tanning and/or bikini prep. Plus, it’s only a 5 hour drive from Atlanta. Why not? We needed to get away!

This past weekend, we stayed at the brand-new (only seventeen days old when we checked in) Holiday Inn on Meeting Street. Highly recommend. We spent a good bit of time at the hotel bar/restaurant (shocker) called The Meeting Room. Huge thanks to manager, Kevin aka Kev, for taking care of us.

On Saturday morning, we drug ourselves out of bed for brunch at Toast of Charleston. They had us at bottomless mimosas. The food and service were also great.

Saturday night we ventured to Blossom for dinner. Superb service, great ambiance and delicious food. After dinner, we walked to Pearlz (not a typo) for oyster shooters. Don’t knock it til’ you try it…

Needless to say, lots of laughs and good times were had by all. Looking forward to where the road takes us next time!

friday five.

Happy Friday, ladies!

So, we basically blinked and the holidays are here. And you know what that means (besides family drama)…TRAVEL. L and I are seasoned road warriors, and we’re sharing our top five travel essentials on today’s Friday Five.

1. Dry Shampoo: Sitting in a car/plane for hours on end can make your hair feel totally flat and/or greasy. Liven up your locks with Psssssst Instant Spray Shampoo. Hair looks, feels and smells freshly shampooed without water. Easy.

they started the trend and pssssst it works.

2. Moisturizer: When winter weather leaves our faces feeling dry and chapped, we rely on Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Perfecting Water Moisture Mist. Not sure what is in this “water,” but our skin loves it! Skin looks hydrated and softened with the first use. This product is *key* when traveling.

Laura Mercier Moisturizer
the results are totally worth the extra $.

3. All-In-One Products: It’s one thing to spread all your stuff out on your own bathroom counter (JENNY), but the holidays often mean sharing cramped quarters. L really loves this Garnier Ultimate Cleanser–it doubles as an exfoliating scrub (scrub your face for two minutes) and *triples* as a purifying mask (leave it on for five minutes). You basically get an entire face cleaning arsenal in one tube. We’re all about multi-tasking.

ultimate is right.

4. Flats: How in the world are some of these ladies running around the airport in 5” stilettos!? Tone it down with some cute and comfortable flats, okay?

Sole Society Flats
the ‘Peony’ flat by Sole Society is perfection. glitter on your feet? we approve.
Ferragamo Varina Flats
if you’re splurging, the Ferragamo “Varina” Flat is where you need to be. they’re classic and GORG!

5. Travel Pouch: Don’t stash your luxe travel products in a boring ziplock bag. We suggest Kate Spade:

well. that’s pretty on point.

EEEE glitter pouch! SOLD.

*Don’t forget your phone/iPad/laptop chargers! We’ve been guilty of that too many times to count.*

And speaking of travel, L and I are reuniting in Athens this weekend for the University of Georgia/Georgia Southern football game. One or both of us will probably end up painting our nails in public. It’s a tradition. Hope you are as excited as we are for the weekend!
