street style: best of nyfw.

It’s no secret that the style on the street during Fashion Month is just as interesting and as much of a trend forecaster as what actually comes down the runways. Here are our “best of” picks (pics?) for street style during New York Fashion Week. Of course, a lot of it was weird (*shakes head*)…but a lot of it was pretty great.

As you can see, we’re really feeling the structured, 80s “Working Girl” vibe right now. What #nyfw street style looks tickled your fancy?

jeffrey fashion cares.

J had the pleasure of attending Jeffrey Fashion Cares on August 31, a charity fashion show founded by Atlanta and New York retailer, Jeffrey Kalinsky. This  show has grown to be one of the largest combined AIDS and breast cancer benefits in the country. JFC featured gorgeous, high-end looks from Marc Jacobs, Mary Katrantzou, Narciso Rodriguez, Saint Laurent Paris, Christian Louboutin and more. Here are some of J’s shots from the night:

frozen hot chocolate.

If you’ve ever been to Serendipity, you know why they’re famous for their frozen hot chocolate. It’s amazing. We were super excited to come across this recipe to re-create the delicious treat:

Frozen Hot Chocolate
Based on the Serendipity original
Technically, this serves one person drinking from an enormous goblet. But you might want to share amongst 4 smaller cups, especially at a party.

Ingredients
3 ounces milk chocolate, roughly chopped
2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 1/2 cups milk, divided
Dash salt
3 cups ice
Whipped cream, peppermint sticks, hot fudge, chocolate squares or shavings, or marshmallow syrup for garnish, if you’re in the mood

In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the chocolate, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, salt, and 1/2 cup of the milk, stirring as the chocolate melts so that the whole thing becomes a smooth chocolate base.

Cool this completely to room temperature, or go ahead and put it in an airtight container in the refrigerator to use later.

When ready to drink, put the chocolate base in a blender, and add the remaining 1 cup of milk and the ice. Blend until thoroughly combined and slushy. Spoon the frozen hot chocolate into cups, mugs, or bowls, and garnish as desired.

new york fashion week picks.

New York Fashion Week comes to a close tomorrow.  This is probably a good thing for our day jobs, given the inordinate amount of time L and I have spent obsessing over show gossip researching the web for photos.  Here are our three favorite shows:

1. Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2013 RTW: “She’s a sexy tomboy with a bit of bon vivant,” Rebecca Minkoff said backstage before her show. We would say that’s pretty accurate. This was absolutely one of our favorite shows. And it didn’t hurt that Ryan Lochte was sitting front row…

R Minkoff Dress Print

*obsessed* with the print and neckline.

R Minkoff Dress Short

so many fun details, from the pockets to the slits at the neck. perfection.

R Minkoff Bag

GSU gameday anyone?

2. Tory Burch Spring 2013 RTW: As previously documented here and here, we have just a smallish obsession with Tory Burch (the woman AND the brand).  So it will come as no surprise that we are in love with her latest. The gorgeous colors, great fabrics, fun shoes and accessories… we die.

Tory Burch 3

fringe detail! and those SHOES!

Tory Burch 2

the chunky necklace added to the soft dress works.

Tory Burch

i can totally see myself wearing this at a garden party in the Hamptons.

3. J Crew Spring 2013 RTW: Honestly, does anyone even remember when J Crew was just a catalog?  Jenna Lyons has so *totally* revamped this brand into a quirky-sexy powerhouse, its origins as a go-to for boring-yet-dependable basics seem unfathomable.  We fell hard for the latest genius mix of prints and materials.

will everyone just start mixing stripes and florals already?

J Crew S/S 2013 Look

We’re dying to know: what were your #nyfw faves?
