lime sorbet margaritas.

Our search for new summer cocktail recipes continues! J came across this fun and ridiculously easy recipe for Lime Sorbet Margaritas on Pinterest and tried it to over the weekend. Here’s how it went down.

The Glitter Life Margarita

Ingredients

  • 1 lime, cut into 8 wedges
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 pints lime sorbet
  • 1/2 cup tequila

Directions

  1. Rub the lime wedges around the rims of 8 stemmed glasses. Place the sugar on a small plate. Turn each glass upside down and dip the rims in the sugar to coat.
  2. Place 2 scoops of sorbet in each glass and pour 1 tablespoon of tequila over the top of each. Serve with a spoon. A cocktail you can eat with a spoon? That’s kind of our dream.

Want to see a quick vid of the process? Check out J’s Vine video!

Trying this cocktail at your next cookout? We want to see pics! Share on Twitter or Instagram.

friday five: super bowl edition.

Wait, is there a football game on Sunday?

Girls, we can’t lie. We are BUMMED that our beloved Atlanta Falcons won’t be taking the field on Sunday. We do love a party though, so we’re making the most of it and planning to take part in the Super Bowl festivities anyway. Whether you’re invited to a party or hosting your own, today’s Friday Five is here to inspire you.

1. Classic Appetizers. If you’re a guest, show up in a party mood and bring an appetizer. We love apps that introduce new twists on old favorites. Here are our picks:

Marinated Mozzarella

Cheese Twists.

Cheese Twists
These are EASY (but do budget yourself an extra 30 minutes for them to chill before baking) and will impress every guy in the room. image: martha stewart.

Pigs in a Blanket.

Pigs in Blankets
poppy seeds add sophistication to this retro fave. image: martha stewart.

Fried Olives.

Fried Olives
these will be the talk of the party! the frying is really NBD. image: martha stewart.

2. Sliders. If you’re the host, ask guests to bring appetizers while you take responsibility for the main course. Chili is a Super Bowl party staple, but why don’t you get creative and serve sliders? They’re a little more work, but they’re cute, easy to grab, and don’t require silverware. Buzzfeed lists thirty slider recipes (some ridiculous, most delicious). Enlist a friend or two to help you assemble them.

Fried Oyster Sliders
fried oyster sliders from Food Republic.
Reuben Sliders
mini reuben sliders from eat at home cooks.
Pulled Pork Sliders
pulled pork sliders from Framed Cooks.

3. Drinks. Goodness knows J loves a theme party. Check out these football-inspired beverage ideas. Cheesy? Yes. Fun? ABSOLUTELY.

Football shaker
score a touchdown with this cocktail shaker from amazon.com.
Midori Cocktail
get a kick out of this Midori cocktail from She Knows Food and Recipes.
Red/Purple Paper Straws
details, details, details. score paper straws in your team colors from etsy.

4. Drinking Game. Timeouts. Commercials. Half time. The Super Bowl just lends itself to drinking games, right? Check out these (hilarious) suggestions from nerdscholar.

Beyonce Halftime Show
Beyonce will be singing (for reals?) at the halftime show.

5. Dress Code. No wardrobe malfunctions this year, ladies. Ditch the jersey and show your team spirit with a fun pair of colored denim!

weekend wrap-up.

Happy Monday, glitter girls!

It was a busy busy weekend for these glitter girls. Holiday parties GALORE, birthday party, shopping…’tis the season!

J: This weekend was Jay’s nieces 3rd birthday party (her actual birthday is Friday). This came complete with farm animals and tons of gifts. She’s such a sweet princess and loved every minute. On Sunday, I accompanied my friend Kati to her holiday party at the W Downtown Atlanta. Love spending time with an old college friend!

the kids were obsessed with all of the fun animals!

L: Joe and I were lucky to have a few party invites Friday night–it was nice to spend time with so many good friends. On Saturday morning, we had brunch at a restaurant Joe has been dying to try, Tortuga’s Grille, in Thunderbolt near Savannah. Best shrimp fritters ever, y’all.

Shrimp Fritters
it took us two seconds to eat these delicious shrimp fritters.

We’d be lying if we said that this holiday season feels super duper festive right now. Friday’s school shooting as well as things that have affected each of us personally have taken some of the glitter out of this time of year. If you’re struggling to get into the holiday spirit, it’s okay to regret that party invite and stay in. For some of us, going through the motions is important–it makes us feel normal. Others need more quiet time. So however you choose to deal with everything, remember that there  is MUCH to celebrate!

weekend wrap-up: holiday edition

Hi hi hi, glitter girls!

WOW, what a whirlwind of a holiday. We hope you all enjoyed as much time with friends/family as we did. L and I were both in Augusta for Thanksgiving (both sets of parents live there), and then we each had a few adventures on our own. Here’s what we’ve been up to:

L: The Joes and I enjoyed a wonderful Turkey Day dinner at the Augusta Country Club (fantastic food, and no dishes for L’s mom!). After a nice afternoon with family, Joe headed back to Statesboro while Baby Joe and I relaxed in Augusta. We loved having brunch and doing a little shopping at one of our favorite shopping centers on Saturday with my mom. On our way back home to Statesboro, we stopped by Locos to see Big Joe and watch the University of Georgia stomp Georgia Tech. Go Dawgs!

J: With Jay and Romeo in tow, we left for Augusta on Wednesday night and spent Thanksgving with my family on Thursday. On Friday, we decided to break up our trip back to Atlanta by stopping at Lake Oconee. We enjoyed a laid-back night drinking cocktails and roasting marshmallows at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation. Their holiday decor is BEYOND! We finally made it home yesterday, and I enjoyed brunch with some of my favorite ladies at West Egg Cafe.

Of course, we wouldn’t be glitter girls if we hadn’t met up for drinks on Friday. L, J and Jay reunited at Bar Oliviana, a cute new Italian place that J’s brother Thomas helped open.

athens.

Happy Tuesday, glitter girls!

This weekend J and I had a glitter reunion in Athens, GA for the GSU/UGA (our alma maters, respectively) game. Athens is a beautiful college town–we ate great food, drank great wine and had a blast in general. Witness:

Tailgating
we tailgated with a huge crew from Georgia Southern. and yes, we’re both wearing fur vests.
Sanford Stadium
there’s nothing like a Saturday in Sanford Stadium.
Joe & Laura
joe loves a selfie.
Cheers!
we met up after the game at East West Bistro, one of the best spots for people watching in downtown Athens.
Look!
see what we mean?
Thumbs Up.
joe commissioned a street artist to draw the Georgia Southern eagle. it looked so good that jay asked him to draw the Chase 54 logo. can you believe the artist didn’t have any arms? what an amazing talent.
Gingkos.
j and jay headed back to lake oconee saturday night. joe and I enjoyed brunch outside at NONA, under these beautiful gingko trees.
Crabcakes Benedict
this crabcakes benedict is pretty much the best thing i’ve ever eaten.

We hope your weekend was as fantastic as ours. Tweet us pics @glitter_blog_xo.
