Inner+Outer Beauty

outfit roundup.

Last week was packed with travel and work meetings, and I’m still playing catch-up. The downside is that I am exhausted. The bright side is that I scooped a few new transitional items I know I’ll be wearing all spring. Here’s a look back:

Funnel Neck Look
casual style for a longggg day of traveling

Joe and I had an almost-full day of travel last Thursday that dovetailed immediately into a meet-and-greet event, with no time to change in between. Knowing that we wouldn’t have any downtime, I chose my travel outfit carefully. My knit funnel-neck top is cute, relaxed and absolutely will not wrinkle. I love the elbow-length sleeves, which will work into the spring. My exact top is sold out, but I’ve rounded up several similar styles below (a few of which I’m purchasing as soon as I finish this post!). I’m wearing a new fit from my favorite denim brand Blank NYC – the high-rise skinny. I’ve been waiting for years for Blank to make a high-rise skinny, and I’m pumpppped that I scooped these. Oh and my exact pair is on sale for less than $50 with most sizes in stock!

White Blazer Look
simple outfit for dinner with friends.

We were treated to a bit of warmer weather later in the week, and I wore one of my favorite jeans + blazer combos for dinner with friends. BCBGeneration makes this blazer in tons of colors year after year. The style is so flattering – not boxy at all. I’ve got a few left at Sole Statesboro (on sale!), and you can also buy it here and here.  My Sam Edelman Hazel pumps are on sale in a few colors, including the nude color I’m wearing here. My exact skinny leopard belt is sold out from J Crew Factory, but this one from Gap is super-similar and less than $30. I scooped these Tory Burch studs before our trip last week…because, no reason. Do you ever get that feeling that you just HAVE to have something new for a trip? Er, me neither.

Minnetonka Sneaker Look
mom must-have: comfy, cute sneakers.
I did a separate post about these Minnetonka suede sneakers last week, but I had to include them in this round-up as well because I just can’t stop wearing them. They come in several different colors and have the dreamiest padded insole. I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t feel my best in a blazer and heels…but for those days when I’ve got a ton of errands to run / a soccer game to watch / or just need to feel cute with a minimum of effort, these slip-ons are perfect. I’m also in love with this J. Crew Factory knot-front shirt. I get a new white button-down every year, and this one is my pick for 2018. The fabric is light and linen-y, and the shirttails in front are extra long so you can make the perfect knot. It’s currently on sale for $40! My exact Blank NYC cropped mid-rise skinnies (how cute is the frayed hem??) are sold out right now, so I linked a few other colors in the same fit below.

OPI Black Cherry Chutney
the perfect deep purple.
My nail-color these days is Black Cherry Chutney by OPI. I’ll probably lighten it up in the next few weeks, but for now this feels so right. Do you have a go-to nail color for this time of year? Share it with us on Instagram at @theglitterlifexo!

must-have winter beauty essentials.

Winter, I am so over you. The temps are still cold in Georgia, but I’m willing warmer weather to hurry uppp by getting in fighting form for spring. This means eating cleaner (of course), drinking more water, and sprucing up my skincare routine. Below are four of my favorite beauty essentials.

Crest Pro-Health HD Teeth Whitening System // Yall, this stuff is GOOD…and it’s perfectly safe for sensitive teeth like mine. I’ve never been able to use a whitening system due to sensitivity, but I’ve been using this for two weeks and have had no discomfort. I definitely see a difference in my teeth…and it’s only $10. WHAT.

Shea Moisture Body Scrub // After months of wearing tights, my legs are not in super great shape. Of course the solution for #ashy, dry skin is to exfoliate…but some scrubs can leave your skin feeling raw. This one is seriously moisturizing, though. You slough it on, slough it off, and BAM your skin will feel super smooth with none of the icky gritty feeling that some scrubs leave behind. So go ahead and use this every day if you want – your skin will thank you. PS: I’ve been using it on my hands daily, and I’ve noticed a big difference there, too!

First Aid Beauty UItra Repair Serum // First Aid Ultra Repair Intense Hydration Cream These products work for *all* skin types. The serum makes my skin feel smoother and tighter all at once, and the cream is super-soothing and calms any redness or irritation I have (and that tends to be a lot this time of year!). Together they’re a great one-two punch. Both products are free of sulphates, parabens and other bad stuff.

genius product: beautycounter facial oil.

Beautycounter No. 2 Plumping Facial Oil The Glitter Life
my new favorite thing.

After years of battling flaky, dry skin (and trying every moisturizer out there), I’ve finally found my forever product: Beautycounter No. 2 Plumping Facial Oil. I’ve always been leery of facial oil – even though my skin is dry, I never liked the idea of putting OIL on my face. What if I break out? What if my makeup slides off?

My friend Rebecca is a Beautycounter consultant, and she convinced me to try this oil. I’m soooo glad I did! It doesn’t feel greasy, and my makeup definitely doesn’t slide off. In fact, my makeup looks way better because my skin is smoother. I’ve been using it consistently for about a month and I can tell a real difference – my skin is less flaky, even at the end of the day.

No 2. Plumping Facial Oil contains a propietary blend of seven natural oils to moisturize, nourish and firm your skin, and omega-rich argan oil helps minimize the appearance of fine lines (who’s not worried about those??). But to me, the best part of the Beautycounter brand is what’s NOT in their products. Beautycounter prohibits the use of over 1500 harmful or questionable ingredients, aka The Never List. Learn more about it here.

Plumping Facial Oil is the answer to my dry skin prayers, but there are TONS of great Beautycounter products for all skin types. Shop the entire line here or email Rebecca directly at rebeccagreenerlee@gmail.com. Friends of ours are friends of hers, so if you place an order this week she’ll give you free shipping! Great skin and free shipping? Can’t beat that.

skin matters.

Sunday Riley

When I was pregnant, my skin was absolutely terrible. There was nothing I could do to control it. Hormones running wild = bad skin for Jennifer.

After James was born, things started to get back to normal and I was ready to rehab my skin with new products. I started reading up on my skincare options and saw SO many recommendations for Sunday Riley! I scooped this sample pack and decided to give them a whirl.

You guys. Blown away. From the first time I used each product, I saw instant results. My skin was clearer and smoother. With continued use, I can honestly say I have had minimal breakouts which is a vast change from before.

My skin is on the drier side and I felt like I needed a little something extra, so I scooped the Juno face oil and needless to say, it did not disappoint. I use it every morning. FULL DISCLOSURE: It smells like olive oil. But it works, so what do you do.

See below to shop the products above! Next on my Sunday Riley shopping list… the C.E.O protect and repair moisturizer!

food for thought.

Let’s face it. We all long for gorgeous, luxurious locks. It’s time to get your hair back to its cooler-weather glory and get this… it’s happening in the kitchen.

Eggs are a great way to get biotin, a B vitamin that helps strengthen brittle strands. For a spicy twist, scramble with sriracha and fresh cilantro!

Red bell peppers have a TON of vitamin C to protect your tresses from UV rays. Try dipping slices in hummus for an afternoon snack.

Similar to salmon, barramundi is rich in omega 3 which works to keep your hair hydrated and shiny! Bonus: it has half the calories of salmon. Fish tacos anyone?

try the trend: nude lips.

While a bright, bold lip will always be in style (and looks SO GOOD on people not named Laura and Jennifer)…we’ve always been pretty loyal to a nude lip. SO, we were psyched to see this look on the fall runways. Here are our picks for the best nude lipsticks, plus a few tips for a flawless application.

  1. Laura’s Favorite // Covergirl Colorlicious Lipstick in Creme (#230) // This super creamy lipstick is infused with shea butter, making it extra moisturizing. It glides on really smooth and while it’s not matte, it’s definitely not super shimmer-y.

    The Glitter Life Nude Lipstick
this is not as bronze-y in real life.
  2. Jennifer’s Favorite // Wet N Wild Megalast Lip Color in Bare It All (#902C) // Great color, great price.

    The Glitter Life Nude Lipstick
it’s $1.97. so just try it.
  3. Laura’s Second Favorite //  Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate in #113 // This is truly matte – a great look if you’re doing a sultry cat-eye and dramatic lashes. The only drawback is that the matte “lasting finish”can be kind of drying.

    The Glitter Life Nude Lipstick
    just add a cat-eye.
  4. Christa’s Favorite // LORAC Cream Lipstick in Long Kiss // Our friend and makeup guru Christa recommends this peachy nude. It feels great going on, and provides a hint more color than these others.

    The Glitter Life Nude Lipstick
    peach perfection.

Once you’ve picked your shade, try these tips for an application worthy of a make-up pro:

  1. Exfoliate // Use a lip scrub, or improvise with an old toothbrush and vaseline.
  2. Apply Lip Balm // Choose one that’s waxy, not oily or glossy. Easy does it.
  3. Apply Concealer// Pat it on and around your lips with your finger. This neutralizes the natural pink of your lips.
  4. Line Lips // Use a nude liner one shade darker than your skin tone, and then fill in your whole lip with the pencil to create a neutral base.
  5. Apply lipstick //
  6. Apply gloss // Use a clear gloss with no shimmer or sparkle. TA-DA!
