Happy Tuesday, glitter girls!

So we totally fell down on the job and didn’t do our Monday post. Hope your start to the week wasn’t as hectic as ours!

We’re probably telling you something you already know…but animals (not animal prints, but actual animals) are a huge trend for fall. Designers and taste-makers are moving away from animal prints like leopard and zebra and using the actual animals themselves. We love the resulting preppy/winky vibe.

Our hands-down fave animal is the fox–smart, sneaky…but still cute. Here are our picks:

Tory Burch Fox Cuff
the perfect addition to your fall arm party. tory burch suede cuffs, $145 each.
Anthropologie Fox Top
obsessed with the rouched sleeves on this top. Anthropologie, $48
Zara Fox Top
layer this under a navy blazer. Zara shell, $35.90.
Asos Fox Scarf
the perfect fall scarf. Asos, $21.11.
Sydney Evan Fox Earrings
L’s birthday is coming up. HINT HINT. sydney evan, $1300.

What’s your favorite animal trend for fall?

Happy Friday, glitter girls!

The Glitter Life is about fashion, makeup, design, cocktails…but most of all it’s about the friendship of two girls (that’s us) who, despite no longer living in the same town (wah!), manage to talk all day, every day about everything. What color should I paint my nails this weekend? Do I need pink pants? My desk is ugly–what should I do? Honestly, our posts are really just summaries of our random conversations on any given day.

One of the best parts of our Glitter Life experience is discovering other bloggers. Every now and then we “meet” someone new that we can totally see ourselves being BFF with. One of our faves is Kelly of Austen Hill. We love her traditional-with-a-twist style, and seriously, the girl is always up for a wine tasting. She’s cute and funny and we are totally going to meet up with her in Atlanta soon. She promised! Austen Hill

Today, we are swapping posts with Kelly. You know, bloggers helping each other out and stuff.  So read down for Kelly’s take on the Friday Five...and then visit Austen Hill to read her other posts AND see our own Glitter Life Friday Five guest post. C’mon, you know this is the best day of the week. Take it away, Kelly!

Hello, lovely to meet the fabulous readers of The Glitter Life! It’s Kelly from Austen Hill and I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to be a guest on this fantastic blog. I am a huge fan of Jennifer and Laura! Not only are they super sweet, but they have flawless taste and I always know I can count on their recommendations.

Like you, I follow The Glitter Life all week but I especially look forward to Friday Fives! J + L never fail to give me great ideas for a little weekend fun and highlight awesome finds. When they asked me to do a Friday Five post {a la Austen Hill} I jumped at the chance.

I’m happy to report this week has been pretty darn good! For my day job travel is the norm, but luckily this week I was able to stay close to home. This weekend I’m hoping to enjoy the amazing fall weather, start decorating for my annual Halloween Party, and most importantly have some fun! Read on for more of my Friday Five picks and don’t forget to check out J + L’s Friday post on my blog.

1. Wine Festivals

If you read my blog you’ll notice that I consider wine a food group. Luckily I live in Virginia where wineries are plentiful and wine festivals are a fall staple. Saturday I’m pouring for my friends {Cooper Vineyards} at a local festival. You can find out more about Cooper and other Virginia Wines here.

I love outdoor festivals but they can present some wardrobe challenges as they tend to go on rain or shine, freezing or sweltering. I’ve put together a fun look that will ensure you’re comfortable but still look put together while you’re braving the elements this weekend.

Fall Wine Festival

I’m mildly obsessed with J. Crew so I can’t leave without dropping a line about their new on-line factory store, check it out here!

2. Fall/Winter Skin Care

If I don’t take precautions, a negative effect of all of this outdoor, wine-drinking awesomeness can be dry skin and sunburn. To protect my skin during the fall/winter months my go-to line is Kiehl’s. Their products are gentle but affective and they absolutely work!

Kiehls Faves

Some of my favorites include:

  1. Midnight Recovery Concentrate: A little goes a long way and it smells amazing!
  2. Ultra Facial Cream: Lightweight 24-hour moisture
  3. Lip Balm #1: Never leave home without it
  4. Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+: Trust me you can absolutely wear this under make-up

3. Pumpkin Pancakes

I love to savor flavors when they’re in season so right now I’m on a pumpkin kick! This recipe for Pumpkin Pancakes from Martha Stewart looks yummy and easy {two of my favorite things}. Sunday morning I predict you’ll find me tucked under a blanket with a plate of these babies and some strong coffee.

4. DIY Halloween Fascinator

I’m a self-professed Anglophile, so you’ll hardly be surprised to find I’m a Royals junkie and that I adore Kate Middleton’s style. Fascinators are back in a big way because of the “Middleton Effect” and what better way to look chic on Halloween?! I came across this DIY Halloween Fascinator from the always amazing Fabulous K, so I think my weekend DIY project is set! Can’t wait to wear this at my Halloween Party! Pinterest has tons of other fun options like the one below or be creative and come up with an entirely new design on your own.

5. Take Charge of Your Health

Through my day job I have the privilege of knowing Lindsay Avner, an amazing woman and the founder of Bright Pink, a non-profit organization that focuses on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women. Read Lindsay’s story here.

Lindsay Avner

While these types of cancers are far less common in young women, they do tend to be linked within families. Knowing your families medical history is crucial to assessing your risk factors for these types of cancers. Visit Bright Pink’s website here for valuable information and resources. October is breast cancer awareness month so I challenge you to take control of your health and Be Brilliant, Be Bold, Be Bright Pink!

Have a wonderful weekend and don’t forget to visit Austen Hill here and follow me on Twitter @AustenHill and Facebook!

SEE?! We knew you would love Kelly. Hope yall have a fantastic weekend!

P.S. We are totally making that fascinator.

pearly whites.

Let’s face it. We *all* want a perfectly straight, perfectly white smile a la Julia Roberts. L and I are already obsessive teeth-brushers, but we’re ready to take it to the next level. Let’s take a look at some at-home solutions, shall we?

1. Everyday GLO: Coffee, tea and red wine are less than great for your teeth…but we would never ask you to give up your Starbucks or your Barefoot. Instead, keep your smile healthy and white on the go with Everyday GLO. Rub it on after drinking the offending beverages to erase stains, promote healthy gums, and freshen breath. Available at Sephora.

Everyday GLO
perfect for touch ups.

2. GO Smile: The B1 whitening system (on sale here!) has been around for years. I actually used it in college! Grrrrr, why did I ever stop? This formula produces results in just 10 days. Sold. Again.

GO Smile
easy to use, no-mess tubes.

3. Wine wipes: Hey. We all enjoy a bottle glass of red wine every now and then. We’re not judging…but you might want to take a look at your teeth. Take care of that maroon grin with these tasteless wipes. Cute, right?

Wine Wipes
“wipe that wine off your smile!”

4. Arm & Hammer Dental Care Whitening Booster: Baking soda is key to whitening your teeth. You could go old-school and brush with the stuff in your fridge…or squeeze this Arm & Hammer whitening booster on top of your regular toothpaste.

Arm & Hammer whitening
quick. easy. cheap.

What’s your fave at-home whitening product?

YAY! My October Birchbox is here!

This month, Birchbox teamed up with Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle website Goop to create a box of Gwynie’s faves. If you’re unfamiliar with Birchbox, click here. And now for the goods:

1. Miracle Skin Transformer: This tinted skin perfecter is five things rolled into one: moisturizer, primer, pore minimizer, sunscreen, and zaps oil. We love a multi-tasker! And it doesn’t smell.

Miracle Skin Transformer
gotta have SPF.

2. Luna Bar: Chocolate Raspberry: You’ve got to get your daily dose of fiber somehow. Why not via dark chocolate that forms a perfect union with ripe raspberries and a bit of vanilla icing?

Luna Fiber Bar
how can something so good for us be so delicious?

3. Caudalie Vinoperfect Complexion Correcting Radiance Serum: Oil free. No irritants. Perfect. This serum goes on super smooth and leaves my face feeling fresh.

Caudalie Vino Protect
prevents pesky spots from making an unwelcome appearance.

4. DDF Brightening Cleanser: I’ve been a huge fan of DDF for a while–the moisturizer is amazing. So I was quite excited to receive this XL sample of brightening cleanser. It’s really gentle and leaves you with noticeably brighter, smoother skin.

DDF Brightening Cleanser
this cocktail of ingredients = flawless skin.

5. Mighty Leaf Tea Pouches: Cold weather is approaching, so these tea pouches brought a smile to my face. There’s nothing better than warming up with a delicious warm beverage! These tea pouches are perfect to keep in my desk.

Mighty Leaf Tea
i’m no tea snob, but these blends are amazing.

Happy Friday, Glitter Girls!

Whew, it’s been a crazy week. L’s been working on her new website–a few thousand photos later, it’s almost ready. J has been in the middle of media madness, prepping for the Tavern at Phipps’ twentieth anniversary party. Read on for the rest of our weekend picks!

Sushi: Boy, do we love us some sushi. L’s in Atlanta for Market, so we met up with some her friends at Starfish in Buckhead last night. We love this place–the rolls are creative and the service is friendly. Don’t live in Atlanta (or feel like staying in)? Check out this article and learn how to make your own sushi.

Kingdom of Heaven Roll
try the Kingdom of Heaven roll: spicy tuna roll topped with cream cheese, masago, eel & avocado.

DIY: Weekends are for DIY, right? We are totally doing this Sea Urchin sculpture on Sunday. Look out, Kelly Wearstler.

Glam Sea Urchin
toothpicks + styrofoam ball + gold spray paint = DIY work of art.

Fall cocktail:Because every weekend deserves its own signature drink, mosey on over to the cute blog Two Tarts and make a Vanilla, Pear and Vodka cocktail.

Vanilla, Pear & Vodka Cocktail
those little black specks are scrapings from the vanilla bean!

Party: If you’re in Atlanta this weekend, check out the twentieth anniversary bash at the Tavern at Phipps. J can assure you this Atlanta landmark knows how to throw a party…

Tavern At Phipps
fun, right!?

Shop: We were *beyond* excited when Zara Home launched this week (with free shipping in October, no less). Super cute and affordable (just like the Zara clothing line), Zara Home offers everything from bedding to bath accessories to cocktail napkins.

Wooster table.
Must have. Stat.

What are you up to this weekend!?

Breast cancer is a cause close to our glitter hearts. L’s mom and mother-in-law and J’s aunt are proud breast cancer survivors. October is breast cancer awareness month, and some of our favorite companies have made it super easy to support this worthy cause. Check out some of our faves below.  Shopping has never been so satisfying.

1. Tory Burch is giving 15 percent of the sales of limited-edition pink wrap bracelets ($95) and hardshell phone cases ($48) to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Tory Burch BCRF
iPhone 4/4S case and adorable wrap bracelet in hot pink.

2. Essie is participating in “31 days of pink” by featuring thirty-one unique shades of pink polish (one for every day of the month) in October. Our faves are Check Up, a bright bubble-gum pink, and Good Morning Hope, a paler pink hue.

Essie Pink Polish
we didn’t need any encouragement to paint our nails pink starting October1…but we do appreciate Essie’s donation to Living Beyond Breast Cancer.

3. Yummy candle company Archipelago has partnered with Breast Cancer Angels. Fifty percent of all proceeds of the Bougie De La Vie collection will be donated to underprivileged cancer patients and their families.

a delightful blend of jasmine, fresh cut grass and hydrangea.

4. Up-and- coming golf apparel brand Chase54 (previously featured here) is donating proceeds from these cute men’s and women’s tees to Save The Ta.Tas. Do us a solid and follow Chase54 on Facebook and Twitter.

Y’all.  Y’ALL. We are battling a serious feather obsession lately. Whether it’s on the runway or on our front doors, we can’t stop thinking about them.

Feather Fascinator

Feather Skirt
gah. want.

Fendi Fall 2012
where to wear this Fendi Fall 2012 ensemble? oh you know, anywhere.

Peacock Headband
we have a crush on this peacock headband.
Shop more Etsy-fied feathers here.

Decor: Is it just us or does most fall decor look like a third grade classroom? You can have your cheesy orange and yellow leaves; we’ll take feathers.

Feather Tablescape
simple and elegant.
Feather Bouquet
view more images from this beautiful fall wedding here.
Feather Wreath
love that long ribbon.
Double Door Fall Wreaths
oh, to have double front doors! feathers dress up the twig and white gourd wreaths.

What are you obsessed with, fashion-wise or decorating-wise (or both), these days? Hope you all have a fantastic week! (And a nice Columbus Day holiday, if you have today off. Sadly, J and I do not.)

friday five.

Well hello, Friday. We meet again. Time to sort out our weekend plans. Here’s what we’re thinking:

Jeunesse Face Mask
this quick and easy peel (from my fave, CVS) gets rid of dead skin in an instant.

5. Relax: By some miracle, L and I are both enjoying relaxing weekends at home with NO PLANS. After we wash off our masks (hello, new skin), we’re going to chill on our patios and enjoy this beautiful fall weather.

Beverage Dispenser
let your guests sample a little of everything with this trio beverage dispenser!
Keep Calm Drinks Tray
our mantra for the weekend.
Tavern Outside Table
love this rustic outdoor furniture from pottery barn.

Here’s to a fantastic weekend!
