skin matters.

HAPPY FRIDAY! As you guys know, I’m a little obsessive about my skin. I love trying new skincare products, but I also have some that I buy over and over. I thought I would do a roundup of everything I’m loving right now. You know, a little weekend shopping inspo!

I use this Beautycounter Charcoal Bar every morning and night. 1. It lasts forever. Seriously. 2. It doesn’t dry out your skin. 3. It’s super refreshing. Like you face really feels clean.

While I love the charcoal bar, I use this Sephora Micellar Cleansing Water to make sure I get everything off. Bonus: it’s super affordable.

Y’all. Listen up. If you’re going to splurge on any skincare product, this is the one. Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 1970 Original. Get this exact one (there are a few versions, but this is the cult fave.) It’s worth every. penny. It’s literally a facial in a bottle and you see results immediately.

There was a 10 day trial of this Algenist Liquid Collagen available with my Sephora points and bought a bottle immediately after I finished that supply. I feel like my skin is brighter and smoother. Put it on before your night serum and wake up with a plump glow!

I wanted to add a vitamin c serum to my morning routine and tried several. I ended up buying a bottle of the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum after I tried the Rise + Glo Trial Duo. Try starting with that to make sure you love it!

I also went the Drunk Elephant route with my moisturizer… The Protini Polypeptide Cream. Moisturizes with no grease and minimizes lines and wrinkles. Done and done.

For a night serum, I’ve been using the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate and it’s definitely going to be a staple in the routine. This + Algenist Liquid Collagen = magic.

I’ve been using the Sunday Riley Juno Face Oil for a year or so. It’s hands down the best if you need a quick moisture boost, this is exactly what you need.

If there is a mask, I have tried it. With that said, I have 2 favorites. The Charlotte Tilbury Dry Sheet Mask is bizarre (it’s really dry…), but 100% works. Then the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask is another I buy in bulk.

Click the links above  to shop everything mentioned. I will work on a makeup roundup as well! Stay tuned… Hope everyone has a great weekend!

must-have winter beauty essentials.

Winter, I am so over you. The temps are still cold in Georgia, but I’m willing warmer weather to hurry uppp by getting in fighting form for spring. This means eating cleaner (of course), drinking more water, and sprucing up my skincare routine. Below are four of my favorite beauty essentials.

Crest Pro-Health HD Teeth Whitening System // Yall, this stuff is GOOD…and it’s perfectly safe for sensitive teeth like mine. I’ve never been able to use a whitening system due to sensitivity, but I’ve been using this for two weeks and have had no discomfort. I definitely see a difference in my teeth…and it’s only $10. WHAT.

Shea Moisture Body Scrub // After months of wearing tights, my legs are not in super great shape. Of course the solution for #ashy, dry skin is to exfoliate…but some scrubs can leave your skin feeling raw. This one is seriously moisturizing, though. You slough it on, slough it off, and BAM your skin will feel super smooth with none of the icky gritty feeling that some scrubs leave behind. So go ahead and use this every day if you want – your skin will thank you. PS: I’ve been using it on my hands daily, and I’ve noticed a big difference there, too!

First Aid Beauty UItra Repair Serum // First Aid Ultra Repair Intense Hydration Cream These products work for *all* skin types. The serum makes my skin feel smoother and tighter all at once, and the cream is super-soothing and calms any redness or irritation I have (and that tends to be a lot this time of year!). Together they’re a great one-two punch. Both products are free of sulphates, parabens and other bad stuff.

Sunday Riley

When I was pregnant, my skin was absolutely terrible. There was nothing I could do to control it. Hormones running wild = bad skin for Jennifer.

After James was born, things started to get back to normal and I was ready to rehab my skin with new products. I started reading up on my skincare options and saw SO many recommendations for Sunday Riley! I scooped this sample pack and decided to give them a whirl.

You guys. Blown away. From the first time I used each product, I saw instant results. My skin was clearer and smoother. With continued use, I can honestly say I have had minimal breakouts which is a vast change from before.

My skin is on the drier side and I felt like I needed a little something extra, so I scooped the Juno face oil and needless to say, it did not disappoint. I use it every morning. FULL DISCLOSURE: It smells like olive oil. But it works, so what do you do.

See below to shop the products above! Next on my Sunday Riley shopping list… the C.E.O protect and repair moisturizer!

spring fragrances.

Spring is in full force here in Georgia, and we could not be more excited (though we could definitely do without the pollen). The dawn of a new season always inspires us to switch up our fragrance, and this spring we are craving light, fresh scents. Here are some of our faves.

Kate Spade Twirl: J received a sample of this in her Birchbox and immediately fell in love. This scent is emblematic of the Kate Spade brand: cheerful, fun and flirty.

Tom Ford Neroli Portofino: We have both been wearing Tom For Black Orchid for YEARS, so it’s no surprise that we are obsessed with his latest, Neroli Portofino. One spritz and you’ll feel like you’re on the Italian Rivera.

Viktor & Rolf Flower Bomb: There’s something so fresh about this scent. Light and not-at-all over powering…just gorgeous. It’s similar to J’s old faithful, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh: Marc Jacobs knows fragrance (among other fabulous things); his various scents are always best-sellers. Eau So Fresh is totally spring-y and sweet.

Sephora Fragrance Sampler: Look. Shopping for perfume is tough. Sephora has made the experience a little easier for us all! Here’s the drill:

1. Purchase the Beauty To Go Fragrance Sampler For Her from Sephora.

2. Sample Sephora’s most popular scents.

3. Choose a favorite.

4. Redeem a roller ball at no additional charge.

peanut butter + jelly muffins.

I’m always looking for fun recipes to make with Joe Jr. I saw this recipe for Peanut Butter and Jelly Muffins on the cute blog Two Peas and Their Pod (we featured another of their recipes here). Saturday morning seemed like the perfect time for the two of us to do a little baking…and a little tasting.

peach preserves ooze from golden peanut-y goodness.

Peanut Butter & Jelly Muffins adapted from Two Peas and Their Pod

What You Need:

  • 1 2/3 cups Gold Medal all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup of your favorite jelly, preserves or jam
  • Standard muffin tin (recipe yields 12 muffins)

What You Do:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray 12 muffin cups with nonstick cooking spray or line with paper cups.
  • Combine dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, peanut butter, oil, egg, and vanilla.
  • Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix just until combined.
  • Scoop a heaping tablespoon of batter into each muffin cup. Spoon a heaping teaspoonful of jam on top of each cupful of batter. Then spoon about 2 tablespoons of batter over the jam.
  • Divide any remaining batter equally among the muffin cups.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the muffins have risen in the middle and are firm to the touch. (Original recipe from The Recipe Girl Cookbook)

These muffins were tasty…but I learned something the first time I made them. The original recipe called for two tablespoons of batter on the bottom, but when I did that I ran out of batter for the tops of the muffins. The second time around I did a heaping tablespoon of batter, followed by a heaping teaspoon of preserves, followed by a heaping tablespoon of batter. I did have a little left over using that method, and I just divided it among the muffin cups. I made six muffins with peach preserves (my fave) and six with grape jelly (Joe’s choice).

Joe Jr and I had fun making these- his favorite part was licking the peanut butter spoon.

don’t panic, it’s just peanut butter.
