spring party prep.

Hello, spring! After two weeks of unseasonably freezing temps, it’s beginning to warm up again. The weather has us in the mood to entertain, so we’re sharing our spring party essentials today. Because who’s not in the mood to throw a little party at home?

sparkling glassware and blue and white plates

We like to serve wine in short old-fashioned glasses, like these and these. Colorful plates (mine are Blue Italian Spode Dinnerware) perfectly complement spring’s colorful blooms.

Antique table (similar here) paired with reproduction mid-century chairs

Ice down beer and wine in a blue and white planter. Mine is on loan (permanently? eek) from my mother-in-law, but this one is super similar.

colorful cocktail napkins // well-loved tray

Display glassware and cocktail napkins (these and these from H&M are adorable and stupid cheap) on a pewter tray. I received this one as a wedding gift almost twelve years ago – it’s still available on Wayfair! – and we also like this simple one. A reptile tray would add sophisticated texture to a lacquered table, and this cute little pineapple tray is perfect for a cheeseball and crackers.

I’ve been using a basic acrylic ice bucket forever. This one by Kate Spade would be a nice upgrade! I’d also love this gold corkscrew (Mother’s Day is coming up…right?).

say cheese.

Oh my heart… It’s National Cheese Day. No secret that L and I live off of formaggio {And vino. Feeling very Italian right now.}

I came across this handy pairing guide and had to share. Could be fun to host a wine + cheese tasting for your next girls night!

And now for my favorite cheese joke: What did the melted cheese say to the unlucky tortilla? Man, it’s Nacho day!

friday five: houseguests.

J’s parents are en route from Augusta to Atlanta this weekend to watch Glitter Girl Britton Rowe tie the knot. This will be J’s first time having overnight houseguests since she moved in May. EEEK! In preparation for the weekend, we did some thinking on how to make her guests feel at home. Read on for our ultimate hostessing tips.

1. Goody Tray. Don’t make your guests hike to the fridge for a late-night bottle of water. Set up a tray in the guest room for easy access to necessities.

2. Fresh Flowers. Say ‘Welcome’ with fresh peonies. Choose a location out of direct sunlight with good air circulation, and their fragrance will distribute throughout your home.

fresh and lovely.
3. Bake Something. Is there anything better than walking into a house where something’s been baking? Nope. Pop something in the oven before your guests arrive. These Cinnamon Roll Cookies from Baked Perfection will do the trick.

we can smell them now.

4. Fresh Linens. Make it a vacation for your visitors with comfy, cozy linens. Buy the best sheets you can (reasonably) afford, and make sure the pillows are fresh and plump.

ahh. serenity.

5. Itinerary. Take charge and map out the weekend. Make reservations when needed – it’s always good to have a plan. Guests are a great excuse to show off your favorite haunt or try something totally different. J is treating her parents to lunch at Nuevo Laredo this weekend. If you’ve never been to this Atlanta restaurant, add it to your to-do list.
