pimiento cheese.

In my fantasy life, I host fabulous dinner parties. In my real life, entertaining friends usually means wine and appetizers.

Big, fancy meals have their place, but few things are easier and more conducive to great conversation than a casual cocktail party.

This fantastic four-cheese pimiento cheese totally fits the bill: it’s easy–as long as you don’t mind dealing with a food processor, it’s make-ahead (more time for hair and makeup), and it takes a traditional, much-loved simple food and elevates it to foodie status.

I made this for my girls’ beach weekend, and everyone agreed it was delish!  Use it to make mini-sandwiches or as a spread with crackers and apples.

Pimiento Cheese Ingredients

Four Cheese Pimiento Cheese

  • 3 cups (12 ounces) shredded white Cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups (8 ounces) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 4 ounces crumbled bleu cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 (4-ounce) jar sliced pimientos
  • 1 cup light mayonnaise (Hellman’s is the BEST, yall)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

Combine all ingredients in a food processor and process until not-quite-smooth.  Cover and chill for an hour or so.  Spread on party-size rye or country white bread, or spoon into a bowl and serve with crackers and sliced apples.

Tip: Resist the temptation to buy pre-shredded cheese. That stuff is coated with a weird substance that prevents it from sticking together in the package…which means your pimiento cheese spread won’t bind. Buy blocks of real cheese and use an old-school cheese grater.  COMPANY IS COMING, after all.

Pimiento Cheese Sandwiches
Try not to eat them all before the doorbell rings.

**Recipe adapted from Par 3 Tea Time at the Masters. J and I are both Augusta girls, so we love this cookbook!

P.S. – Are you a pimiento cheese purist? Whatever. This is an also-delicious, more traditional recipe.

nail tips.

Here at TGL, Laura and I are *obsessed* with painting our nails. No color or design is off limits. With that said, I bring you neon tips with the help of reinforcers. (yep, those crazy white circles you used in high-school to keep your paper from falling out of your binder) Check it:

I purchased these polish/reinforcers at my local CVS/Ulta. Feel free to switch up the colors! I think fushia with silver glitter tips will be my next move. Me? Glitter? Surprise Surprise.

Step 2: TIPS

Okay SO I figured this out the hard way… You need to start by painting your tips on fresh clean nails! The reinforcers were so sticky they even pulled up dry polish. Not cute…

Step 3: FILL IN

I found that taking the brush in horizontal strokes rather than vertical helped a lot! Either way, practice is going to be key. I’ll be honest, I re-did mine 3 times before I got them halfway decent. Perfectionist tendencies…

J’ai fini.

Romes decided he wanted to cheer me on while taking on the task of neon tips…

What nail trend will you be trying this summer, Glitter Girls?

raspberry beer cocktails.

Happy Friday, Glitter Girls!

We love these refreshing raspberry beer cocktails, adapted from Southern Living and introduced to me by my friend Rebecca.  They’re perfect for your backyard barbecue or beach weekend. Why don’t you make a pitcher this afternoon?

How pretty are these?

3/4 c fresh or frozen raspberries
3 1/2 (12 oz) bottles beer, chilled (you can use whatever kind–we used Bud Light on our beach weekend)
1 (12oz) container frozen raspberry lemonade concentrate, thawed
1/2 cup vodka
Garnish; lemon and lime slices

1. Stir together first 4 ingredients. Serve over ice. Garnish, if desired. Um, how easy was that?

Tip: To make ahead (and you know we like to do this), stir together lemonade concentrate and vodka in a large container. Chill up to 3 days. Stir in raspberries and beer just before serving. Garnish, if desired (we desire).

Cheers to the weekend!

XO, Laura and Jennifer

get your roll on.

The bar cart trend has returned with more style than ever! Here are 10 bar cart essentials, IMO:

1. A great shaker is key. So is glitter.

Home Wet Bar

2. Give the bartender a little inspiration with a cocktail recipe book.

3. Pretty bottle stoppers are the perfect alternative to your run-of-the-mill cork.

4. Why not house your liquor in something super cute?

5. What would a bar cart be without a little bubbly!?

How cute are these?

6. Jazz up your cocktail with fun paper straws!

7. Here at TGL we are OBSESSED with chevron. Chevron anything. Chevron cocktail napkin? Absolutely.

Neiman Marcus

8. I mustache you a question… are you making a statement with your bottle opener?

Jonathan Adler

9. Go vintage with your ice bucket. Modern can be equally amazing…

10. Last but not least, here are a few of my favorite bar carts:

Don’t just sit there—start drinking. Or at least stock your bar. If you don’t have one . . . Don’t you think you should?

yum. no-bake energy bites.

I don’t like baking but I *do* like energy…so I have sort of flipped out for these no-bake energy bites, adapted from the super-cute blog Gimme Some Oven. One of my Social girls brought some to work the other day, and I have been obsessed ever since. These are ridiculously easy and super healthy, too.

No-Bake Energy Bites Recipe

  • 1 cup dry oatmeal
  • 2/3 cup toasted coconut flakes
  • 1 cup almond butter (or peanut butter)
  • 1/2 cup ground flaxseed (or wheat germ)
  • 1/2 cup dried fruit, like Craisins or dried apricots (or chocolate chips. i know you were thinking it!)
  • 1/3 cup honey (honey isn’t my fave– i use a little less than 1/3 cup)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Stir all ingredients together in a medium bowl until thoroughly mixed. Let chill in the refrigerator for half an hour. Once chilled, roll into balls of whatever size you would like (yes, these sort of look like meatballs). Store in an airtight container and keep refrigerated for up to 1 week. Makes about 20-25 1″ balls.

Toasting Coconut:
Spread the coconut on a baking sheet and bake for 18 – 20 minutes at 300 degrees, until it’s a nice nutty brown. Coconut burns easily, so maybe start at 15 minutes and go from there. Tip: Keep your un-toasted flakes in the freezer in a ziploc bag.  They will last FOREVER.

the chase is on.

Glitter Girls!
This past weekend I had the pleasure of working with the guys from Chase 54, an up-and-coming golf apparel line. (54 is a perfect score in golf and, let’s face it, we’re all chasing perfection right?) Trust me ladies, these guys know their stuff. From the state of the art fabrics, to the top notch production and design, it’s impeccable style at an affordable price. They pride themselves in being a line “for golfers, by golfers”. I dig it.
Here’s a behind the scenes look at their photo shoot this past weekend:
Time to get started!

How awesome are these colors?

Don’t worry, the socks weren’t in the shot!
Putting my steaming skills to good use (thanks, Laura!)

A few shots at Crystal Lake before the sun went down.

A HUGE thanks to the guys at C4 Belts for letting us use their belts in the shots.
What do you think, girls? Will your guys be wearing Chase 54?

beach babes.

Happy Monday, glitter girls! I spent the weekend at the beach with friends on a much needed vacay.  [[I am BUSY, yall.]] We drank wine, braided each other’s hair, danced, met a pirate, rode in a random convertible…the usual girls’ stuff.  I couldn’t have made it through the weekend without this list of beach essentials…
1. Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray. Love this–it’s great for girls with wavy hair, like Jennifer and me. Plus it smells amazing. Plus PLUS you can buy it almost anywhere.
Want it?

 2. ViX Cherry Bia Bikini. Great color, great fit. Here is it on a model…and then in real life on the beach (two-year old strategically placed!). I love that it’s tripled lined and doesn’t ride up.
Available at Dish Boutique
3. Watermelon Margarita. Pretty much the best thing I have ever tasted.
Make it!
4. Sound Freaq Blue Tooth Speaker. This wireless speaker is awesome–use it to play music from your phone, no cords necessary. The sound is fantastic, and the charge lasts forever. Read a good review here.
5. And this sweet visor from our favorite beach watering hole. Every vacay needs a souvenir.
One more (fuzzy) pic of the weekend…
All four of us repping styles from my stores, Social and Dish!
While I was busy relaxing by the pool, Jennifer was hard at work on a photo shoot! Stay tuned for her post…
