friday five: mother’s day.

Where would we be without Mom? Show her some love with these five great gifts. And since these are all gifts we’d love to receive ourselves…Moms, feel free to leave your laptops open to this post. HINT, HINT, Significant Others.

1. Blow Out: Treat Mom to a glamorous Dry Bar experience. Even better, make her blow-out last with this gift set. It includes a blow-out gift coaster, Detox Dry Shampoo and {everyone’s fave} Morning After Shower Cap.

2. Homemade Brunch: A reservation isn’t easy to come by on Mother’s Day. If you’re in the same city as Mom, cook her brunch at home (hers or yours) instead! L loves these foolproof recipes: Mushroom Spinach Frittata (EASY) and Cheddar Cheese Grits Casserole (EASIER). Both recipes are forgiving and open to interpretation. Add a little bacon to the frittata; add a little cayenne to the grits casserole. If Mom is a foodie (and you’re up for something fancier), try a delicious Roasted Asparagus & Goat Cheese Frittata. Bon appetit!

3. A Little Shopping: Tons of stores are celebrating Mother’s Day with mom-daughter shopping events. L’s boutiques Social and Dish are hosting MOMS + Mimosas this Saturday, May 11. Swing in with Mom, for Mom, or for yourself and enjoy 25% off any item. Not in Statesboro? Use promo code MOM13 to save on www.shopsocialdish.com.

shop for yourself AND mom and save.

4. DIY Gift: Our girl Lauren Conrad has a knack for cute crafts that score low on the frustration scale. All you need for an adorable Mother’s Day gift is a white coffee mug (or other dish) and a gold paint pen. So get creative! Spoiler alert: L made one of these for her mom, her mother-in-law, and herself.

so easy. so cute.
so easy. so cute.

5. Give back. Mother’s Day is an opportunity to thank the woman who gave you life. It’s also a chance to honor women around the world who are overcoming adversity.  There are so many options. Buy matching bracelets from 31 Bits for you and Mom – the proceeds help equip Ugandan women with literacy education, financial and vocational training, holistic care, and strong support systems. Or clean out your closets together and donate your gently used workwear to a local charity like Dress for Success, which has affiliates all over the United States. Do some research and choose a cause that resonates with you both. Mom will be so proud.

spotlight: mamie ruth.

One of the best parts of owning a boutique (or two) is discovering and supporting new designers. Our favorite up-and-coming line is Mamie Ruth, designed by Georgia native and Georgia Southern University alum Emily Bargeron. We began carrying Mamie Ruth at Dish back in 2010, and since then the line has exploded on the fashion scene. Mamie is now in over fifty stores in the US! We’re proud that we were one of the first.

We love that Emily has a truly unique point of view: her designs mix tribal prints with retro shapes with free-spirited abandon. For Spring 13, Mamie references Mexico and the Day of the Dead celebration. These blanket shorts epitomize the collection.

Since we live near/have lived in Savannah, GA, St. Patrick’s Day is near and dear to our hearts. We won’t be making it down for the big parade on Sunday, so here’s how we’ll be celebrating:

1. Host a party: Don’t feel like venturing out to your local pub? Have your friends over and go green with your food/decor!

We have a mid-week treat for you, Glitter Girls…

It’s finally warming up here in Georgia, and that’s got us thinking about a vacation. Actually, it’s got us thinking about bikinis. L and I are super excited to share our favorite swimsuits from Dish. We picked these out months ago in Vegas and were *beyond* excited when they arrived at the store.

L*Space stole our hearts last year with their fringe bikini tops and beautiful prints. This year, they’ve upped their game with braiding and a super sssssexy reptile print that matches their solids.

All swimwear and flip-flops are in-stock at Dish. Call 912.871.3989 or email orders@shopsocialdish.com to order. We can also help you with fit information and advice!

Need a easy/safe tan before you hop into one of these adorbs bikinis? Answer: Yes. Check out our self tanning tips here.

friday five.

Happy Friday, glitter girls!

This week has been total madness. J has had a bazillion work meetings & tried to get to the gym in the interim; L has been doing everything from shipping orders to ordering inventory to hosting a trunk show (more on that next week!). So thank you, Friday, for showing up on time. We’re looking forward to putting our work aside and trying some new things this weekend! Here’s what we’re thinking:

1. Pop of Color: Spring is the perfect excuse to brighten your interior. Start small – pick a room and add a little “P.O.C.”, as Mr. Brad Goreski would say. We found five images to inspire you on The Glitter Guide. (And tune into It’s a Brad Brad World on Wednesdays at 10PM on Bravo. Love him.)

2. Nails: Ease into spring with a bright, fun mani! (And glitter, naturally.)

3. Fun Recipe: It will be warming up in Atlanta this weekend (finally). Sixty-five and sunny = patio lunch/dinner. So glad the Brown Eyed Baker is sharing ninety-five of her favorite spring recipes. Why not try 1, 5, or 10?

Cucumber-Tomato Bruschetta in Phyllo Cups anyone?

4. New Necklace: Speaking of a pop of color, why not shop for something to add a little pizazz to the basic chambray shirt you’ll be wearing all spring? 31 Bits is a socially-minded jewelry business giving women in Northern Uganda an opportunity to counter poverty by making jewelry. The “beads” on these beautiful necklaces are handmade using recycled paper. Thanks to 31 Bits, these women who make these necklaces now have access to English lessons, finance training, AIDS and health training, and more. We can’t think of a better way to update your wardrobe.

31 Bits Collage
$52 // $44 // $58 available at dish. call 912.871.3989 to order.

5. Recover: Cold temps and whipping wind can do a number on your locks. This weekend, get your hair back in business with the Winter’s Grasp Dry Scalp Mask from Homemade Living: Home Dairy with Ashley English. You can thank us later.

Winter Hair Care
a little damage control…

What are you ladies up to this weekend? Shopping? Cooking? Eating? Drinking? Tweet or Instagram us pics! @glitter_blog_xo. You could be our next Glitter Girl

friday five: fresh.

FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY!

Despite the wretched weather in Georgia, or maybe because of it, we can’t stop thinking about spring. This week’s Friday Five is dedicated to all things fresh.

1. Fresh Produce. Spring means fresh produce! Most farmer’s markets will really kick into gear in a few weeks. Drop by your local farmer’s market and scoop whatever looks best to you. Ask questions if you don’t know how to prepare a certain veggie – most vendors are happy to share a recipe or two. Learn how to master your farmer’s market and how to keep your produce fresh with a few tips from Lauren Conrad.

L tried this tip with fresh blackberries on wednesday. so far, so good. image: lauren conrad.

2. Ice Cream Colors. What better way to welcome spring than with cupcakes made with your new pastel KitchenAid mixer? We love every single thing on this collage by Design*Sponge.

grrrrrrr we want that ikat console SO BAD.

3. EOS Mint Lip Balm. It’s minty. It’s tiny. It’s 95% organic (surely the other 5% won’t hurt us). We’re tossing our bright lipstick and using this natural lip balm this spring.

mint lip balm
buy a few: car, desk, handbag etc. ahhhh.

4. Mint Blazers. It’s no secret that we love a classic blazer. This time of year we start thinking about swapping our favorite navy jacket for a pastel version. Mint flatters every hair color and complexion, and it looks equally great with dark denim and white denim.

5. White Denim. Speaking of white denim, now is the time to buy the perfect white jean. The Kaylie Slim & Sexy Bootcut fit by 7 For All Mankind will carry you through spring and summer. We love the curvy fit and the not-too-big boot.

7FAM White Bootcut

We’re working hard and playing hard this weekend. We’ll check back in on Monday!

Wait, you didn’t think we’d leave you for the weekend without a cocktail recipe, did you? That wouldn’t be very Glitter of us. In keeping with today’s theme, swap your usual wine for one of these mint-cucumber-vodka cocktails. Fresh!
