Inner+Outer Beauty

skin matters.

Sunday Riley

When I was pregnant, my skin was absolutely terrible. There was nothing I could do to control it. Hormones running wild = bad skin for Jennifer.

After James was born, things started to get back to normal and I was ready to rehab my skin with new products. I started reading up on my skincare options and saw SO many recommendations for Sunday Riley! I scooped this sample pack and decided to give them a whirl.

You guys. Blown away. From the first time I used each product, I saw instant results. My skin was clearer and smoother. With continued use, I can honestly say I have had minimal breakouts which is a vast change from before.

My skin is on the drier side and I felt like I needed a little something extra, so I scooped the Juno face oil and needless to say, it did not disappoint. I use it every morning. FULL DISCLOSURE: It smells like olive oil. But it works, so what do you do.

See below to shop the products above! Next on my Sunday Riley shopping list… the C.E.O protect and repair moisturizer!

food for thought.

Let’s face it. We all long for gorgeous, luxurious locks. It’s time to get your hair back to its cooler-weather glory and get this… it’s happening in the kitchen.

Eggs are a great way to get biotin, a B vitamin that helps strengthen brittle strands. For a spicy twist, scramble with sriracha and fresh cilantro!

Red bell peppers have a TON of vitamin C to protect your tresses from UV rays. Try dipping slices in hummus for an afternoon snack.

Similar to salmon, barramundi is rich in omega 3 which works to keep your hair hydrated and shiny! Bonus: it has half the calories of salmon. Fish tacos anyone?

try the trend: nude lips.

While a bright, bold lip will always be in style (and looks SO GOOD on people not named Laura and Jennifer)…we’ve always been pretty loyal to a nude lip. SO, we were psyched to see this look on the fall runways. Here are our picks for the best nude lipsticks, plus a few tips for a flawless application.

  1. Laura’s Favorite // Covergirl Colorlicious Lipstick in Creme (#230) // This super creamy lipstick is infused with shea butter, making it extra moisturizing. It glides on really smooth and while it’s not matte, it’s definitely not super shimmer-y.

    The Glitter Life Nude Lipstick
this is not as bronze-y in real life.
  2. Jennifer’s Favorite // Wet N Wild Megalast Lip Color in Bare It All (#902C) // Great color, great price.

    The Glitter Life Nude Lipstick
it’s $1.97. so just try it.
  3. Laura’s Second Favorite //  Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate in #113 // This is truly matte – a great look if you’re doing a sultry cat-eye and dramatic lashes. The only drawback is that the matte “lasting finish”can be kind of drying.

    The Glitter Life Nude Lipstick
    just add a cat-eye.
  4. Christa’s Favorite // LORAC Cream Lipstick in Long Kiss // Our friend and makeup guru Christa recommends this peachy nude. It feels great going on, and provides a hint more color than these others.

    The Glitter Life Nude Lipstick
    peach perfection.

Once you’ve picked your shade, try these tips for an application worthy of a make-up pro:

  1. Exfoliate // Use a lip scrub, or improvise with an old toothbrush and vaseline.
  2. Apply Lip Balm // Choose one that’s waxy, not oily or glossy. Easy does it.
  3. Apply Concealer// Pat it on and around your lips with your finger. This neutralizes the natural pink of your lips.
  4. Line Lips // Use a nude liner one shade darker than your skin tone, and then fill in your whole lip with the pencil to create a neutral base.
  5. Apply lipstick //
  6. Apply gloss // Use a clear gloss with no shimmer or sparkle. TA-DA!

shift to neutral.

HAPPY JULY!

If you’re like us, you really put on the color during spring and summer months. Let’s face it, we live in neutrals the rest of the year (ask L about her black v-neck sweater…)

With all of this color being worn we need a solid, natural manicure to avoid clashing (the horror.) Here are some nude hues we’re feeling:

OPI Do You Take Lei Away?

Neutral
top of the list for good reason. the perfect nude polish.

Sally Hansen Lush

.
a nude hue with a velvety finish.

Essie Jazz

Zoya Kennedy

neutral 4
full coverage with 2 coats. perfection.

What polish are you wearing this summer?

our favorites: summer beauty essentials.

We’re headed to Atlanta market on Friday to buy for Fall/Winter 15 (be sure to follow us on Instagram @glitter_blog_xo for sneak peeks and behind the scenes pics!), and afterwards we’re headed to Lake Oconee for a quick weekend getaway. Here are the seven things we never leave home without this time of year.

Summer Beauty Essentials

1 // Pale blue is THE nail polish color for summer 15 (we know you know this). L scooped Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Blue Away ($2.97 WHAT) the other day, and this polish brand just might make us abandon Essie forever. It dries super-fast and has an extra-wide brush for even coverage (and also a dumb name, but we can forgive that). We also love the Double Duty Top Coat.

2 // We both have wavy hair, and we like to experiment with sea salt spray to up the texture factor.  We like this one by Josie Maran, but different hair types need different sea salt sprays. This handy article will guide you to the right one for your hair.

3 // A sweaty face is not cute. These blotting papers by Tarte get rave reviews.

4 // Our friend Christa  is something of a lipstick savant. Coral Crush by Maybelline is her pick for summer – in her words, it’s “not very bright but super pigmented.” View other great options here.

5 // This natural-looking self tanning spray by L’Oreal is a year-round beauty essential. It’s honestly pretty goof-proof – just be sure to prep your skin before you apply. We graduate from the “medium” shade to the “dark” shade in the summer.

6 // Our favorite volume-boosting dry shampoo. Because washing, drying and styling your hair in the summer heat is straight misery. L has been known to go for a WEEK between shampoos using this. Really.

7 // Fedora – Despite our best ninja moves with dry shampoo and sea salt spray, sometimes the only answer to summer hair is a fedora. Throw it on and don’t look back.

friday four: links we love.

Happy Friday, glitter girls! Check out these links to what we’re loving today. There are only four because we have had a TIME this week (who says #MayMayhem is over?!)

Friday Four The Glitter Life

1 ΙΙ Delish Snack Recipe. We’re definitely into brown-bagging (more money to spend on our nails!), so we’re totes baking a batch of Rosemary Parmesan Chickpeas for lunch next week.

2 ΙΙ Cocktail Napkins. Our love affair with linen cocktail napkins continues. How cute would these be at your next backyard fiesta?

3 ΙΙ Inspiring Words. You may have already seen Sheryl Sandberg’s essay on the death of her husband. If you haven’t, this beautifully-written perspective on love and loss is worth the read.

4 ΙΙ Happy Dance. If watching this video doesn’t make you want to throw a dance party, nothing will. In fact, we’re going to do just that when we go to the lake next weekend!
