fortify kitchen.

Before we went on our baby-moon, I did some research on local restaurants. Fortify Kitchen & Bar was at the very top of the list with rave reviews. Needless to say, it lived up to the hype.

J: With Baby James’ arrival fast approaching, Jay and I decided to skip town for a little baby-moon. That’s a thing, right?

Not a tall order: something within driving distance from Atlanta, somewhere we’ve never been with a spa (ME) and golf (Jay.) We did our research and decided on… Waterfall Club | Lake Burton. A resort with everything we wanted and a backdrop like no other. You would never think you were less than 2 hours outside the city. A little look into our weekend:

viva las vegas.

It’s no secret that we love a good getaway to Vegas {you can see our past trips here and here.}

Our travels out west include work and play while shopping for L’s boutiques Sole + Dish. With such a packed schedule on short trips, we’ve become experts in transitioning our outfits from day to night. Needless to say when Juliana from Vegas.com challenged us to create the #UltimateVegasOutfit, we accepted. Let’s set the scene for a day in Vegas:

Bonjour: Well, good morning! Time to fuel up for the day at one of the best breakfast | brunch spots on the strip, Mon Ami Gabi. From there, hit the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian for a little retail therapy and maybe a gondola ride! Need a pick me up after shopping? (and that means a cocktail) Skip over to Sugar Factory for a “grown-up drink“.

Vegas.com Challenge
Bonjour: romper | fedora | flats | cross-body bag | aviators      Bonne Nuit: romper | belt | heels | clutch | earrings

Bonne Nuit: Let’s take on the night. After a quick change at our home away from home, Hard Rock Hotel, we waste no time and head to dinner downstairs at our favorite, Pink Taco. Keep in mind happy hour is from 3-7PM! Post-dinner drinks at The Chandelier Bar in The Cosmopolitan are a must then maybe a little blackjack in the casino. #winning

J:

Jay and I spent 2 days in Istanbul, Turkey on our honeymoon. It was one of the most beautiful places we saw on our travels second to Santorini {photos coming soon!} We were lucky to be there during the Istanbul Tulip Festival! Millions of tulips were planted throughout the city, basically anywhere open ground was available. We toured Topkapi Palace , Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque which were unbelievable. Shopped our way through the Grand Bazaar and Spice Market. Ate the most amazing food {see video below.} Until we meet again, Istanbul.

On our first night in Istanbul, we came across a family owned restaurant called Old House Restaurant in the Lady Diana Hotel. They cook your meal in clay pots in the street which may look questionable, but it was absolutely delicious. See below see below for our chicken | lamb delight:

J: While on our honeymoon, one of the places Jay really wanted to see was Assos, Turkey. I was skeptical due to having to take an hour cab ride to get there and back, but totally worth it. So much history including the Temple of Athena plus these VIEWS.

rule the pool.

EXCITING NEWS! We’re off to Atlanta Market to scoop the best fall/winter trends for Sole and Dish. Don’t tell anyone, but afterwards we’re sneaking off to Lake Oconee for a quick girls’ getaway. No agenda except…pool time. Read on for our pool-side must-haves.

The Glitter Life Pool Essentials

1 // Kitschy pool float? Check. Love this flamingo float by Urban Outfitters.

2 // Mirrored Sunglasses

3 // Ditch your usual flip-flops for glam gold gladiators.

4 // We’re big fans of wearing kimonos as cover-ups. This black one by BCBGeneration goes with everything.

5 // Go for a graphic bikini like this one that features bust-flattering underwire and tan-enhancing neon.

6 // We cannot resist this adorable Kate Spade pineapple pool tote.

7 // We stock these Bliss lipglosses by the dozen.

travel log | Çanakkale.

J. The next stop on our honeymoon was Çanakkale, Turkey. Çanakkale is a town and seaport on the southern Asian coast of Dardanelles at their narrowest point. The cities nearest major town is the site of ancient Troy. You may remember a certain Brad Pitt movie involving a wooden horse that was filmed here…

travel log | rome.

J: The Bakers are baaack. We had the most amazing honeymoon. It was hard coming home, but all good things must come to an end I suppose!

Jay and I started our journey in Rome, Italy. With just a few hours to explore, we really made our rounds:

Rome Room
Our adorable room at Groupe Valadier Roma. Highly recommend! Super friendly and perfect location.
Il Brillo
First stop… pizza. Il BrIllo Parlante just down from our hotel was superb.
Pantheon
We took a stroll by a little piece of history… The Pantheon.
Rome night
Rome at night.
Piazza Venezia
Piazza Venezia. The central hub of Rome. It’s a ZOO as you can see.
Trevi Fountain
The Trevi Fountain was under construction, but still gorgeous.
Spanish Steps
The Spanish Steps are great, but the view from the top is even better.
tiramisu
We ended our night with the best tiramisu we’ve ever had at Antica Osteria Brunetti.

You can’t do Rome on 1 night, but we definitely made a dent. Next up on our honeymoon travels… Turkey! Stay tuned.

reeling you in.

Dearest Catch NYC, We love you. We dined at this gem of a restaurant on J’s bachelorette trip and needless to say it was a crowd favorite. Add this hotspot to your to-dine list next time you’re in NYC. You may even spot a celeb or two

Our faves from the menu include: tartare trio, hellfire roll, lobster rolls, bourbon-miso sea bass “wraps”. The list goes on…

See below for the dirty dirty.

review: beauty + essex brunch.

Today we’re flashing back to J’s bachelorette party in New York City to bring you a restaurant review. On the recommendation of our girls at BCBGeneration, we booked a Sunday brunch reservation at Beauty + Essex, a bi-level, chandelier-lit restaurant and bar on the Lower East Side.

B+E has a retro vibe and features a pawn shop entrance (cool but also a little confusing).

BE2
this is what happened when we told maggie and mary to “act natural.”

After cocktails at the bar, we moved into the main restaurant for brunch. The real scene at B+E is the champagne brunch upstairs (which was just getting cranked up by the time we left)…but we were in the mood for something more chill after our flights the day before. If you’re looking for great people watching, definitely request to go upstairs!

We enjoyed brunch at a large round table (great for conversation) under a pretty skylight.

What We Drank + Ate:

Plus mimosas, of course.

What We Loved:

Everything tasted seriously great, especially that biscuit. We also loved the quirky, speakeasy-ish atmosphere.

What Was Just Okay:

Our service was competent but not amazing.

Our Verdict:

Brunch was great, but if we ever have a chance to go back we’re going for dinner. We can’t stop thinking about the dinner menu – Lobster tacos, anyone?

What’s your favorite brunch spot?
