friday five: link love.

Oh hey, Friday. We’re hanging at the Ritz Carlton at Reynolds Plantation today, NBD. This is J’s big weekend – she will officially become a MRS. tomorrow! Be sure to follow along with us on Insta (#JJB2015) as we chronicle what’s sure to be an amazing weekend. In the meantime, check out these links to stuff we love. xo

Links We Love 4_17_15
#vibes

1. Coachella Survival Guide. Headed to Coachella this weekend? Say hello to Ryan Adams for us. Also read this article and check out Dish Statesboro for #festivalstyle inspo.

2. Tudor Tutor. Move over, Downton Abbey. We’re superrrrr excited that Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall is now on PBS. Palace intrigue can be confusing, so use this handy guide to distinguish between Tudor loyalists and Papists while you watch.

3. Sally Hansen Self Tanner. The quest for the perfect self tanner never ends. You could say it’s our holy grail. This one is our new fave. The color is totally natural, and there’s virtually no weird fading. Don’t let the orange tint freak you out–it washes off your hands.

4. One Pot Basil + Andouille Sausage Pasta.  You know we’re all about quick easy, one-pot dinners…especially those that can be repurposed for lunch the next day. This one uses tons of summer-fresh basil.

5. World Market Pendant Lamp. We think this simple-yet-special gold pendant lamp would look amazing in a powder room, small home office….or over a modern crib in a nursery.

Happy Friday! This weekend, J’s doing a trial run for wedding hair and makeup (EEEK!) and L’s working in the retail game, but we’re both going to make time to watch a little of the Masters and sip an Azalea Cocktail. In the meantime, take a few minutes to check out these links to stuff we love.

4. Banana Palm Pillow. Give your couch  or pool house chaise a spring update with these adorbs pillows. Bonus if you set yours up in front of a vintage VW van.

5. Essie Bachelorette Bash. You know we paint our nails every Friday. J gave her bridesmaids this bright, happy hue during our bachelorette weekend in NYC. Love love love!

friday five | loves.

YAY for the weekend. It’s actually sunny today – we’re crossing our fingers this lasts for a few days. Here’s what we’re loving right now!

1. Nude Lip. After a winter of bright red lips, we’re really feeling this pared down nude lip. Now, if we can just get a tan…

2. Homemade Pizza. L and Joe made this delicious Spinach Artichoke Pizza (sans artichokes – forgot them at the store!) this week, and it’s probably making a reappearance on Sunday night. It’s super easy, and we love the combination of flavors. Even Baby Joe gobbled it up.

3. Mimosa caddy. Making mimosa caddies is tops on our spring to-do list because we love champagne, we love pink, and we love DIY. And just because.

sneak peek: pb weddings photo shoot.

It was just a normal Tuesday…and then our friend Christy, the super talented owner of Colonial House of Flowers, asked Dish to join in on her collaboration with Pottery Barn Weddings. Also in on the fun were our friends (and former Shop Social Dish girls!) Kristin and Anna of Alva & Austrie. What could be more fun? We had to say yes!

We rounded up our favorite model Maggie and headed over to a beautiful home in Statesboro for the shoot. We were amazed at what the girls at Colonial House and A+A had achieved – a welcoming, spring-y bridal shower in the middle of January (complete with hand-lettered banners, flower crowns, and more fresh flowers than we’ve ever seen this time of year). There was a REAL photographer, of course (the adorable and amazing Izzy Hudgins) and we can’t wait to show you those pictures. But until the official post is up, check our behind-the-scenes pics.

how to: make a candle from an orange.

Scrolling through our latest edition of The Southern Coterie, we came across this genius post from Libbie Summers. She made CANDLES out of ORANGES. We can’t think of a better way to bring fresh, citrusy scent into your home in the middle of winter! Plus, her pics are gorgeous. Read on and try it for yourself – we’re going to!

How To Make a Candle From An Orange (makes 2 candles)

(By Libbie Summers, Assisted by Candace Brower)

Ingredients/stuff you’ll need:
1 orange (preferably with a thick skin)
Knife
Grapefruit spoon (optional/you can use your hands just fine)
Olive oil or vegetable oil
Lighter

Directions:

STEP ONE

STEP TWO
Orange Candle Making: LibbieSummers.com
Use a knife to cut the orange in half across the middle.

Use your fingers or a grapefruit spoon to remove the flesh down to the skin, being sure to leave the middle stem like portion intact. (I was worried about it ripping out, but the worry wasn’t necessary. The “stem” is tough and won’t pull out easily.)

STEP THREE
Making an orange candle from libbiesummers.comPour oil over the stem (this is important, you need to get the stem/wick saturated with the oil to help start the flame). Fill to slightly below the top of the wick.

STEP FOUR

Let the oil filled candle sit for a few minutes before lighting with the lighter. Even then, it still takes a couple of minutes to keep the flame from extinguishing. But, once you get it lit, it will stay lit for….wait for it.
How to make an orange candle from LibbieSummers.comFIVE HOURS!!!!! And, as far as the scent goes…think a homemade orange and olive oil body scrub. Just a slight citrus scent mixed with olive oil and something else you can’t quite put your finger on.
I will never throw away an orange rind again without illuminating it.
