pack your bags.

Happy Monday, Glitter Girls!  J and I are running around today, getting ready for our trip. (Maybe you’ve heard about it?) Packing for a whole week has been a bit of a challenge. Here’s what we made room for in our suitcases…

L’s List:

Straw Fedora
necessary for the plane and the pool.
Matisse Coconuts Gaucho Boot
we’ll be on our feet all day, and these are SO comfy.
Leopard Print Denim Cut-Offs
slightly obsessed with these leopard print denim cut-offs.
ViX Angola Bikini
vix swimsuits are pricey, but the fit and the fabric are worth the money. we’re hoping we’ll have at least one afternoon to relax a little by the pool.
with super weird flight times and time changes, a sleep mask is a MUST.

J’s List:

glitter heels = vegas
we are *obsessed* with peplum right now. spice this up with some jewels and we’re vegas ready.
vintage chanel.
this chambray shirt will jazz up my MAGIC ensemble.
vegas is loud, y’all. and we will need SOME beauty sleep.

Clearly we’re taking more than this…but these are our highlights.  What are we missing?  What would y’all take if you were going with us?  Eeeeeeek, we’re leaving tomorrow!

friday five.

Ah, Friday…we thought you would never get here! Here’s what we’re wearing/doing/loving for the next forty-eight hours.

1. Nails. We’ve done mint, we’ve done lilac…this weekend we’re rocking this pretty yellow shade. NYC Lexington Yellow is the perfect yellow: not too neon, not too school bus. Sure, this sunny shade screams summer…but we also love it for fall. Picture it with grey, black and cream.

2. Fresh Flowers. Whether you get them from Bi-Lo (L) or the Farmer’s Market (J), fresh flowers make the *biggest* difference at home. Here are some cute ideas you can totally do with a grocery store bouquet.

Pink Tulips
so pretty and simple, by ariston flowers nyc.
White Flowers
not too girly, by a city wedding.
Pink Peonies
your closet needs some floral love, too. via lucky magazine.

3. Sweet Treat. Making these Sea Salt Fudge Brownies on Sunday night sure would ease the transition to Monday.

4. Movie. It is so seriously hot right now. Watching Celeste and Jesse Forever in a dark, cool movie theater sounds like a plan, right? Check out this excellent list of movies to see  before Labor Day, brought to you by The Daily Candy. (In Atlanta? Check out Cinebistro in Town Brookhaven! You can’t beat having a glass of wine and a great meal while watching a movie.)

cubicle cuteness.

Our friend (and honorary Glitter Girl) Brooke faces that age-old decorating dilemma: how to beautify a boring cubicle. We put together this wish list of cute cubicle accoutrements, keeping in mind her haute hippie aesthetic. Here you go, Brooke!

Bamboo Dry Erase Board
manage your to-do list on this eco friendly bamboo dry erase board.
Ceramic Feather Tray
gather paperclips, thumbtacks and flash drives in a pretty ceramic tray.
maximize floor space with a few of these vintage-y file baskets.
Suzy Jack Pencil Cup
add some color with a patterned pencil cup.
surely Brooke’s boss would spring for this custom desk chair upholstered in Dwell fabric.
Orange Gourd Lamp
it’s hard to get the Mondays when there’s an orange lamp on your desk.
West Elm OPen Terrarium
when your cubicle walls close in, take a deep breath and enjoy this garden in a glass. check out west elm’s terrarium tutorial.
My Travels Journal

poppin' bottles.

Hi hi hi Glitter Girls!

Laura and I are always looking for a pretty way chill our beverages during parties. Let’s face it, a Coleman party cooler isn’t very “glitter.” Here are a ew pretty options I came across:

1. Ikat Slanted Party Tub and Stand Collection: I ordered this as SOON as I saw it. The slanted back is perfect for wine bottles! My sweet friend, Anny, gave me the matching tray as a housewarming gift. Obsessed.

add a pop-of-color to your tub!

2. Wood Outdoor Cooler: This is a MUST for cook-outs. The guys tend to hang around the grill on the patio and this is the perfect housing for their beverages!

how perfect is this for a cook-out?

3. Chevron Beverage Tub: Hosting a bridal/baby shower? Throw a little color into the mix!

our chevron obsession continues…

4. Black & White Damask Beverage Bucket: We’re also obsessed with damask. And anything black and white. (We’re obsessed with LOTS, okay?) The deeper tub is great for stacking water bottles. Or multiple bottles of wine… either way.

love the fun print!

5. Personalize your beverage tub with a monogram: I particularly love this one because you can swap the ribbon for different colors on holidays. They also make really great gifts for newlyweds…

tres chic.

How will you be chilling your beverages this summer? (it’s hot, y’all.)

vegas, baby.

How’s this for exciting?

Next week L and I are headed to Las Vegas for MAGIC, a giant apparel trade show. L has two cute boutiques in Statesboro, and we’re going to buy fall, holiday and pre-spring styles for her stores. We’ve been buying together for six years, but we’ve never been to MAGIC. We leave in T minus 7 days, 22 hours, 26 minutes {{not that we’re counting}}. Crown Room here we come.

Here’s the skinny on our trip:

1. Stay: Our base of operation for the week is the HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO. We love that it’s a little off The Strip. The decor is super cool, and the pool has its own reputation. Did I mention they offer Bikini Brunch on the weekends? Sold.

the trademark guitar juts out over the hotel.
scene of the crime: bikini brunch.
we’re hoping for an upgrade to this suite.

2. DO: MAGIC is a twice-yearly gathering of ten thousand of buyers and five thousand emerging-to-established designers. The typical sales volume per day is $200 million! The vendor displays are rumored to be insane–we plan to spend at least one day just wandering around before we start buying.

3. DINE: One of our *favorite* sushi restaurants, Nobu, is located right in our hotel. L and I have eaten at Nobu New York; we’re pretty sure we’ll feel right at home here.

nobu las vegas.
double yum.

4. PLAY: We’re going to Vegas to work…but we definitely plan to experience the city during our week-long stay. Here’s what we’re thinking we’ll do in our downtime:

we’ll make a stop at the Chandelier Bar in the Cosmopolitan for sure.
maybe have a cold drink at minus 5.
why not swim with the sharks at the Golden Nugget?

We want your suggestions! Where should we wine/dine/play in Vegas?

friday five.

Happy Friday, Glitter Girls! Here’s what we’re loving for the weekend:

1. Make it a girl’s night. L was in town last night and we took full advantage of being in the same zip code. Sometimes you just need a little girl time, right? We know you’re busy, but call your BFF  this weekend and enjoy some time together.  Whether you do wine and cheese at home (like we did), or go someplace fancy (we did that, too)…it’s probably time to reconnect.

pretty, right?

2. Home Improvement. Is your bedroom boring? Accent pillows or a throw blanket can make a huge difference. Here are some rooms we love. I’m feeling bright whites and L is thinking COLOR COLOR COLOR.

3. Sock bun! Last week we challenged you to the fishtail braid (see our attempts below). This week… the sock bun! Watch this tutorial Wendy’s Lookbook. She’s super cute, y’all.

J fishtail

4. Outfit. The weather continues to be icky here in Georgia, so we’ve got to bring our own sunshine. We’re feeling these looks for the weekend. (Can you tell we’re obsessed with Atlantic-Pacific?)

5. Design Darling. We are in love with this super cute website! L and I are always looking for ways to spice up our offices (we spend the most time there, why not make it pretty?).  We’re working on a “dream desk” post–stay tuned for all our office faves.

send notes in style.

Cheers to the weekend!

best bloody marys.

It’s no secret that I love, love love a Bloody Mary. My go-to recipe is super simple: Zing Zang mix, vodka, ice and lemon wedge.  {{Zing Zang mix manages to be totally perfect all by itself, no doctoring needed.}} But if I’m not making the Bloody Mary myself, I’m up for something different/complicated/special. I’ve tasted a LOT of Bloody Marys. Here are my top three recipes.

Masters’ Saturday Morning Bloody Bull

A little saltier and more substantial than your average Bloody.

Bloody Bull

  • 1 quart V8 juice
  • 1 10 1/2 ounce can beef bullion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 Tabasco sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • dash MSG (optional)
  • dash celery seed (not optional)

Combine all ingredients and chill.  Pour large shot of vodka over ice in tall glass and add above mixture.  Yields enough mix for 8 to 10 drinks.

**Adapted from Tea Time at the Masters. If you don’t already own this cookbook, you should.**

Barbecue Bloody Mary

Depending on the barbecue sauce you use, this can skew sweet spicy or spicy-spicy.

  • 6 ounces vodka
  • 12 ounces vegetable or tomato juice (recommended: V8)
  • 3 tablespoons barbecue sauce
  • 3 teaspoons prepared horseradish
  • Dash Worcestershire sauce
  • Dash hot sauce
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • Lemon wedges, for garnish
  • Neelys Dry Rub, for garnish, recipe follows
  • Jalapeno, for garnish

Mix all the ingredients except for the lemon and garnishes into a cocktail shaker with ice. Combine well.  Rim the edge of the glasses with a lemon. Dip into dry rub. {{Actually, you should do this no matter what recipe you use!}} Pour the Bloody Mary into the glasses filled with ice. Garnish each with a jalapeno.

Neelys BBQ Seasoning

  • 1 1/2 cups paprika
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 3/4 tablespoons onion powder

Add all ingredients to a bowl and stir until combined. Keep in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

*Recipe courtesy of Patrick and Gena Neely, stars of Down Home with the Neelys on Food Network.**

Sriracha Bloody Mary Recipe

This Bloody’s Asian twist comes from sriracha sauce, the new Tabasco.

Sriracha Bloody Mary
courtesy of The Tasteful Life

  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 tablespoon horseradish
  • 3 cups V8 Juice
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha Sauce (available at most grocery stores)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 3/4 cups vodka

Combine all ingredients and mix. Recipe makes about 4 servings. I recommend you keep the above mix in a pitcher and pour single servings of it in to a cocktail shaker, adding ice and shaking to chill each serving.

Garnish with the vegetables of your choice. I’m not a big celery person, so I like to get creative. Try pickled okra, asparagus, garlic-stuffed olives, green beans or baby carrots.

**Recipe adapted from The Tasteful Life.**

Cheers, Glitter Girls!

PS – If you’re ever in Statesboro on a Saturday or Sunday, drop by the Make Your Own Bloody Mary bar at my family’s restaurant, Locos Grill & Pub. Buy your vodka shot and experiment to your heart’s content with mixers and garnishes. You’ll probably see me there.

in my bag part 2.

Alright, ladies… Now that you’ve seen what’s in Laura’s bag, here’s a peek into mine:

just a few things…

1. Tory Burch Robinson Satchel: I absolutely adore this bag. The color is perfect. The size is perfect. No complaints. I’ve had her for almost and year and you can barely tell! I’m hard on my bags, y’all…

2. Kate Spade Lacey Wallet: This actually sat in my closet for a while until I purchased the Robinson Satchel. The gold compliments the cognac color perfectly!

3. Missoni for Target notepad: I’m sure most of you are familiar with the craze that was Missoni for Target. I was lucky to scoop these super cute notepads and a few other things! Let’s face it, I always have something to jot down.

4. Narciso Rodriguez for her eau de toilette: I’m pretty picky when it comes to perfume! Narciso Rodriguez has been a staple in my bag for a while. I love that it’s perfect for day or night and lasts most of the day!

5. Buxom Lip Polish: The color (Sandy) is perfect and it gives a nice plumping effect! It lasts a while which is also a plus…

6. Other random products: Colgate Pro Clinical: I HAVE to brush my teeth throughout the day. A little obsessive about it. Hand Sanitizer: A little obsessive about this too… Hair ties: So much cuter than your run-of-the-mill elastics! Ray-Ban Aviators: As L said, you just CAN’T beat this classic style! Very Top Gun. RIP Tom-Kat. Earbuds for the gym, business cards, mints…

the real deal.

SO, we must know… What’s in YOUR bag?

sun tan city.

Here at TGL, Laura and I are *huge* believers in sunless tanning. Sun spots and wrinkles are not cute, girls. Here are some of the products we use to achieve a flawless tan:

1. Bliss Soap n Scrub: It’s super important to exfoliate before using any form of sunless tanner. Bliss Super Minty Soap and Scrub is my go-to exfoliator. On top of sloughing off dead skin before my spray tans, it smells and feels amazing.

minty fresh.

2. VersaSpa: With VersaSpa you can choose a light, medium or dark shade with a clear or bronze finish. I highly recommend the clear unless you want to see results right away. The scent is minimal. There’s also a moisturizing option they call “prep” that is sprayed on in the booth like the tanning mist.  The entire process takes about 2 minutes, including a blow dry function that dries you off. Watch instructional video below before you go to avoid confusion while in the booth!

3. L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Mist: L and I swear by this ultra-fine mist! It’s perfect for touch-ups in between spray tans (our hands and faces fade QUICK, y’all…). No need to rub in and it dries super-fast. Spray it on, wait an hour…and POOF you have a smooth, streak-free tan. Great, right?

4. Hoola Bronzer by Benefit: I’ve tried plenty of bronzers, but this one is my favorite. It’s completely matte with no sparkle which is nice! It gives a very natural finish, and I can get the sun-kissed skin I love without having to fry my face.

how cute!?

What sunless products do you swear by?
